Na build

depends on how extensive you want it. we have a ported core here for about $899 plus shipping. it would need the valve job done to it.

How about the budget version?
I can get some hi-comp pistons from Mazda 10.7
Can I get away with new OEM rods or is forged the only route?

If you had a BP, you could get away with stock rods, but not with an FS.

what about FP? same bore/stroke and inherantly stronger, shorter rods compared to the FS.

It doesn't have the same stroke, and has longer rods. Which is a good thing; it has a better rod ratio, and wil rev more readily. Personally, I'd love to see an FP build.

NA_Wagon, talk to Eddie(flat_black) about quad throttle bodies...he's been working on something for a while.

taking apart the motor today and sending the block and crank to the machine shop will be ordering rods and pistons in the next couple weeks still waiting to find out what intake manifold to use and where to find quad tb's and input will help. ive decided to turn this into a "project in process thread" and will post pics as this project progresses.

some pics of me at the event (and a real good one from the september event i was at)

have couple questions about compression ratio

1. what is a good CR to run NA
2. what is the highest available CR for the FSDE: ive seen 10.7, project by installshield at 13+

if I was going to do a build up I would definately want to go with the highest available without loosing stock attributes

i'm going to go 11:1 when i rebuild - plenty safe for high ron pump fuel

but almost can compression would be custom for us as off the shelf stuff is all FI

so if you really want to make some power raising the CR would be the best bet??? now what about aftermarket forged rods like some vendors are stocking will that be a good buy...and then the pistons will have to be custom made????I would really like to see a NA build...and not have the person give in to the darkside(laugh)

i'm in the process of working out a custom rod/piston setup that will give a rod ratio spot on 1.5:1 - better than anything that's been made for our engnie at the moment (mam's longer rods were still only 1.47:1 or something)

HC pistons are a must for any serious NA build

finally got some wrok done took the motor apart sending the block and crank out next week. thisw is the motor that originally came out of the car and i finally got to see what happend to it:) that rod is nice (shocked)
