I remember srt-4 Kevin's hood mat doing the same thing after the turbo kit was installed on the mp3. I guess it was the extra heat from the turbo that did it.

Maybe you could install a piece of the reflective silver heat lining over where it is damaged now.

Same happened to Danny... it's the turbo.
 
hmm, so I'll have to find some reflective lining to stick under my CF hood before I put it back on in the spring.
 
thats weird though, since the turbo guys havent had any issues with it, Danny and Kevins I could see alittle more, their turbos were up higher in teh bay, Luke's is in stock location. Guess it must be a combo of the older lining and the heat off the turbo, not sure if the manifold shield is gonna help, it doesn't block the turbo
 
There is a turbo heat shield though on the stock MSP turbo. It's way pricey from the dealership though. I think ATP sells heatshields for GT25 and GT28 on their site.

so, now that the car is up and running, there are some more things I'd like to do:
  • Harness bar
  • Cat-less side exhaust
  • 1.8 coil pack
things I still have left to do:
  • DG engine cover
  • FS-ZE intake cam

i must have missed something but what is so benficial about running the 1.8 coil pack?
 
it's shown to really smooth out power delivery. I'm not 100% sure with a turbo setup, but NA cars have really noticed a difference.

so awesome! i'm even getting decent gas mileage (25-28mpg). It's no worse than when I didn't have the turbo.

Brilliant! Glad to see MPG isn't terrible.

Bummer you had to sell the Microtech, that would have been cool to see how much of a difference you noticed going to it. My review won't be the best... "OMG I DOUBLED HORSEPOWER!!!"... oh wait installed the turbo at the same time :D

I was just looking at Justin (xelderx) FSP thread and his side exit exhaust as I'm thinking about doing one of those too. It'll be cheaper. Why are you ditching your current 3" exhaust?

kause he wants to be like his hero j/k. the side exit is nice its alot of fun to shoot flame off the side of the car, its lighter, and its cheaper to build

Nothing wrong with that :D He is an awesome driver and his car's suspension turns me on

i'm using a MSP ECU and the EGR pipe that came with the intake manifold, so no CELs.
 
so, here are some thoughts I've been having about the car:
  • I'd like to make it a dedicated daily driver and use something else for autocross. I'm really leaning towards a NB Miata (99-00).
  • So, I'll be "downgrading" some things on the P5. I want to sell the TEINs and put on something like the adjustable Tokigos with Ground Control to set my ride height and spring rates, but I'd keep the camber plates (maybe).
  • I also want to sell the 17x7s that I have now, and use the 16x8 Rotas with 225/45/16 tires.
  • I need to repair and selll the 17x7.5 Rotas, and refinish and sell the 17x7 Mille Miglias, too.
  • The seats/brackets are gonna go, too, but I'm gonna keep the harnesses. I really want to get a harness bar in there so the back seat can be usable.
  • Oh yeah, the Racing Beat front sway bar is gonna come out. I should have done more research before buying that. It ended up causing more understeer.
As far as the Miata goes, I'm not 100% what it's gonna do. I saw a 1.8 NA with ITBs in FL that looked awesome. There was one with a 13B turbo, too. But my favorite so far is one with a KL V6 swapped in with ITBs... mmmm. In other words, i'll be going from one money pit to another. :)
