My tranny just blew up....

Bah. 12.6k miles and bam! take off, race to 6k in first and POP! I hear the tranny die. :[ its in the shop right now as we speak. Ill know whatsup with it and what exactly happened in the morning. /me crosses fingers for new tranny.. also I might buy some better motor mounts and put them in if they are going to take out the whole engine ect. ect. anyone think thats a good idea?
 
man that sucks. hopefully they won't say you broke it because you were "racing with it". as for the motor mounts, it's up to you. it's gonna be a trade off since apparently at idle, the car shakes a lot. i think turboge was testing some new hard but not quite as hard motor mounts from some place....those sounded good :) prolly just run a search and you'll find the thread.
 
hmm i changed the tranny in my rx-7's and never had to take the engine out. but those are rear wheel so i wouldn't have the faintest idea with a fwd setup. i did change the motor mounts on my eclipse when i had it and it was easy so you could probably do it yourself and save labor cost.
 
shyt your luck its your tranny. i blew the bearings in my turbo, got it fixed went for a test drive by the dealership and noticed the bearingss in that turbo were also gone. oil in my ic and piping.....grrr it sucks.
 
i would get the awr motor mounts...... the back one is a b****(so i am told) i have tried but didnt read enough to change my rear one yet but i love the front one. less wheel hop and less spin. i will have my rear one in soon. but the vibration isn't that bad after a week or so once they wear in at least with the front one!!
 
damn my tranny blew on me too at about 10k mi. i took it to the dealership and they said it was my fault and that they couldnt cover it..,.after alot of arguing they finally agreed to cover it on warranty but i had to pay for a new clutch also...those cheap bastards, i wasnt even racing i was babying it and i just shifted into 2nd gear and POP the gears just grinded away and my car wouldnt move.

something about this doesnt sound right...... are you sure you didnt push it hard even a few times?

The funny thing about having the AWR Mounts is that the engine won't shake in the enigne bay. This weekend Elemental59437, StealthP5, and me each pushed on our throttle cables to rev our engines. Theirs shook. Mine surprisingly didn't budge. I never saw this demonstration before. We need to get it on tape.
 
hrm, thats wierd, because Captain KRM has mounts and his engine doesn not move at all. do you have front and rear mounts?

They are the front and rear mounts.. i have the ones for the manula tranny in my car... like linux said the engine doesnt budge, gives the car great response and feel.

the automatic ones are the same, just softer.. i dont know of anyone having them, but it is a nice option. The ones i have can be annoying at times.;)

Isn't the point of them to not have the engine move around anyway?

What? Did you misread something?


I have just the front AWR one, it does wonders for the wheel hop.
