My problem with the production numbers

Ok, a VIN is a VIN is a VIN. So why are we giving the Canadian cars thier own series numbers? All the MSPs came down the same assembly line. I do not think these numbers we are getting are correct. The numbers should go on basis of the VIN's sequential number, and the Canadian cars are in the group too. Mazda may have the list seperated, but until we get a whole list, including VINs for the Canadian cars, the numbers really don't mean anything.

FWIW, I keep track of 3508 75-76 Chevrolet Cosworth Vegas with VIN and dash production numbers with a freind for our national club. These are kept in an Excel spreadsheet datatbase with dash number, owner, color, int color, VIN, modifications, state and phone number. Sometimes we have seen flips in VIN/dash # due to the cars being pulled off the assembley line for problems, or the 400 series cars, where the workers lost all the dash plaques so they put on the 500s. But the MSPs are numbered soley on production order, and the Canadian cars were mixed in at the same time.

I think we really need to organize a database like this with the Canadian cars included so we can all be sure of the correct numbers. Several people reported that the Mazda people were going to send them the list, has this happened, or was that just smoke?

Well, technically, no one ever separated them did they?? Maybe the few from Canada(I forget who, but someone was #6) are actually that number from the whole 2,000. Do we have any matching production numbers yet? As in a #6 from Canada and a #6 from the U.S.???
We are the ones that divided them into #1-250 from Canada and #1-1750 in the U.S., not Mazda, right?

I believe that Mazda has two lists, one of the Canadian members here reported that awhile ago.

So does that mean that the complete 1,750 for the U.S. was produced first, or vice-versa?? Or was it really just a random group sent to Canada, taht were recorded by their VIN #, and then given their own "production number" after reaching Canada IE: 1st into Canada #1, 2nd in was #2...

I don't understand, when I call the number from Canada, I can't get through, because it won't connect from this country.
Has anyone else in Canada actually called that number and gotten a production number????

yes, I got my number from the 1-800 #, the lady told me that my number is out of 250 for Canada production.

how come u all have problems getting your production #..... you make sure you phone the 1-800# and press 5 for "mazdaspeed' and talk to them. I haven't encounter any problem at all....

I think it's obvious my point was missed.

You likely do not have MSP #104, you have the 104th MSP designated to go to Canada. Not quite as exciting as a sequential production number,

All I know is; when I asked them for the production #, this is the number they gave. So.. I don't know.

I do see your point, and I understand completely what you are saying.
However we will likely never know what the real sequence is, so why not be happy with what we've got?
I'm of the impression the canadian cars would have been built in order, simply due to the slight differences in the car that would have been confusing to deal with on an assembly line (DRL, Speedometer guage, etc).

That's possible, but then they'd be the only #104s or whatever, the current situation allows for an American #104 and a Canadian #104.

Joy is fine, I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but we should get it right for registry purposes don't you think? It's not reeally that special when the numbers are arbitrary.

How come everyone was so upset at the thread "Production numbers - They are wrong!" But are not wanting to figure out the real numbers?
