my p5 is going thunk, thunk....ideas on what it could be?

there is a rattle somewhere in the back end of my pro5!!!

i've taken everything out of my car that isn't tide or bolted down and its still makes that noise when going over a bump

the sound is comming somewhere in the hatch area, im thinking it could be these things

- pressure arms that lifts the hatch
- light in the spoiler
- hinges on the hatch? (checked the bolts though and they seem tight)
- something in the rear suspention (although it doesn't sound like its comething through there, sounds like its around the hatch part itself)

i do have a 10" 150 watt sub tube and this noise has only just started this week in the -20 degree temps

idea's, suggestions?

thanks

Check your car jack in the hatch, passenger side. The bolt that holds the jack in place might be loose or displaced. That was my solution for my problem. Hope that was it.

I've got an idea. You bought an economy car that was less than $20,000 and you expect it to be as well made as a $30,000+ luxury car. Maybe that is the problem. Just my suggestion. Don't take it personally.

Honda's don't rattle....and I bet a lincoln will start rattling before most Mazda's do. Sorry - most of the time I think you're pretty funny...but not with a remark like that.

I agree with you Humvee. Honda's don't rattle, even if it's a Civic DX that's only 10-12k. $20k or $30k. It doesn't matter. Both is still a major investment.

Do you want a brand new cd-player in your car that skips for no reason? Do you want a brand new tv's picture to blur once in a while, just because it's Sanyo and not Sony?

Sure, you get what you pay for. But sometimes, those "little" things are the biggest reasons why you hate certain products and end up buying an alternative product. Maybe you should think of it this way. Would you rather buy a car that's 20k and doesn't rattle, or a 20k car that does rattle? You shouldn't have such low expectations. Continue to do that and you'll always end up cutting yourself short...

are you sure its not the rear seatbelt that is hanging in the hatch smacking against the side of your interior?

Back to the real issue at hand, you might be right about this one. I've done that before after folding the seats down. Surely enough, that dangling seatbelt was the culprit.

Do you have any spare Tire bolts sitting in your trunk? I had one bolt loose(they were for my stock tires....was running my summer rims at the time)...check that!

do you have exhaust?

i know after i got my exhaust and custom cat the piping started hitting my suspension sometimes when i pass a bump... check that if u have one..

How about...

The license plate mount on the hatch. When the dealer put my plates on the car, he also included a dealer trim cover, which banged and rattled (even though it was plastic). I removed the trim and made sure the little bumpers were in place on the back side of the plate mount. It might also cause the engine to over heat. Jim

My last Honda was a real rattletrap. The P5 is a vault in comparison. Re this specific rattle, my hatch will rattle and clunk over bumps if it's not closed all the way. It looks closed but it isn't. You might check the latch and the hatch when closed to make sure it's solidly shut.

That has nothing to do with it. You are not talking about a used $1500 car and let me tell you i have had a nissan altima and lancer around $1500 for first car and no sound unti i hit a few nasty potholes (wear n tear). You are assuming that an individual in present time can only be satisfied with an automobile that is over $30,000. You have probably been sleeping this whole time that the curent automobile industry probably has 70% of automobiles that are around $20000. In China alone, 2.8 million cars are $20,000 or less. Excuse me but you are the only one on this thread that has the mentality that an individual should only be satisfied with an automobile that is $30,000 or more. And if you are even close to mentioning a BMW, AUDI, VW, or MB then please stop because i have heard from all my aquaintances, friends and family that ever had one of those car mentioning to me that at some point the car, something in the car, started to rattle.
