My nuts are really tight... *resolved!*

I'm trying to remove my front motor mount and the nuts are on there really tight... using a torque wrench (because my torque wrench is longer than my ratchet) I can see that I've gone up to 100 ft-lb, and it still won't budge. I can feel and see it start to round the corners, though, so I stopped trying. I sprayed WD-40 on it too, which didn't help at all. Is there any way to get this thing loose?

Thanks.

why is it rounding the corners? Do you not have the right size socket?? You have a breaker bar? Even w/ a short one, you can put a piece of pipe (race jack handles work great for this) on the end for extra leverage.

I know. I think this deserves 'thread title of the week' lol

If you're rounding the corners with a socket, then you're not using the right size socket. That should be damn near impossible to do with the right size socket on the toque wrench. You are using metric sockets, right?

And yeah, your thread title leaves you wide open for taunting. Try boxers!

You know, I'm not sure why it's rounding the corners. The socket seems to fit perfectly, 10mm. When I put the socket on it barely even budges. But when I use the ratchet and turn really hard the whole thing starts to go crooked.

I hate it when the tighest damn nuts on the whole car gotta be some small ass nut like a 10mm. I hate endlink nuts, and hopefully I wont end up hating motor mount nuts soon either.

Rust?

Oh sorry, I meant 17mm, 10mm was for the plastic panel covering it.

Yeah, it is a little rusted, probably contributing to its softness. Is there anything better for this than WD-40?

he's either using some piece of s*** 12 point socket and/or a socket that's too short to go all the way on the FASTENER

Hmm, it's a 6 pt socket, but maybe you're right, there's about half a mm of space between the outside of the socket and the fastener, which I thought was just due to the shape of the nut. I'll pick up a longer socket tomorrow and try again.

Deep socket + impact wrench.

It'll be off before you finish reading this sentence.

Thats what I did and I used a cheap socket set from wally world and I had no problem.

rightsy tightsy leftsy loosey... PB blaster really does help if there is any sort of corrosion on the bolt... otherwise just stop by a local shop and see if they can just pop it off with a impact wrench

every tool box needs an impact gun there mr. tighty-whitey's
either that or grow pipes like me (glare)

If I jacked the front end up would the weight on the mount prevent me from loosening the nuts just a bit? That would give me a lot more space to work with...
