Hey Guys, I know this probably doesnt belong in this forum, but since this where I spend most of my time, I figured I would post it here and let the mods move it if they must.

Anyway, I was out shopping today, and look what I brought home. Let the e-hating begin. :) Its a 2001 w/LS1 engine (310hp/340tq), 6 speed, power nothing, no ttops, no nothing. Earth twisting torque = standard. :)

Nope, I didnt get rid of my P5. This is actually my third car. I think I am gonna have to sell my beater (93 Ranger). Insurance is just too much.

Any of you STI/Evo guys wanna play? (hi)

chrome.. lots of chrome.

Not for long Lil Freek. Im already looking at a Magnaflow cat-back to replace the flowmaster exhaust on there now. Plus headers, y-pipe, window tint, new rims, paint needs fixing in a couple of spots, etc. Holy s***, I need a second job just to pay for the mods for this car!

Hi, my name is Scorch, and I am addicted to cars.

:)

Got your dyno installed yet LF? Im ready to give this baby a ride. Supposedly these dyno at ~300hp/320tq stock.

awesome. My old Trans Am had the same engine. Great fun. Incredible power. Horrible insurance premiums. Cop magnet. But also a chick magner. :)

lol. i'm a while away from my dyno.

but i meant put lots of chrome on it... black and chrome are just mint... esp. on big american cars :P

haha, well, I said the insurance was killing me, but you wont like it when I tell you how much insurance is for me ........ 71 bucks a month for the Camaro, about 150-160 for all three of my cars. Which is a lot for me, but probably nothing for what you guys up north pay.

I know you probably hate me now. Living here in BFE, the insurance companies havent come down on us with both fists yet.

man, Im going just the opposite. I want this car to be invisible. As in a cop saying "where did that low flying plane go?" :)

I really worry about my ability to keep my foot out of this car, it so easy to hit 60, 70, 80...

A buddy of mine who I let test drive it with me, almost got a reckless driving ticket for getting sideways in front of two cops. They must have been on a donut run instead.

haha, dont worry Josh, Im not giving up on the Mazda. But it does really make me think if it is worth it to mod a car that will probably never see 200 whp. I have already spent well past 6k on the P5, so I would hate to stop now. And you know, I think with weight reduction and a good bit of power, I could make it as fast as the Camaro. There is a guy on here with a Probe, weighs ~2100 pounds, with 215 whp n/a, running low 12s. So it is possible.

I guess I have become a split personality. I like my P5, and I like my Z28. i actually like the sound of my P5 more than the Camaro. The Z28 seems too quiet to me. But that may change soon. :)

I decided a long time ago that my goal was to make the Mazda better than a 350z, for about the same price. So I am keeping with that goal. Better handling, same acceleration, etc. So 15k purchase price + 6k mods =21k. Which means I still have about 5 or 6 grand to spend on it to make it better. We shall see.

My insurance just dropped to 120 a month. Thank god. Nice ride scorch, however I'd be cautious and flirting with STi's..At least, this early in the game.

Thanks Spicy. Yeah, Im mostly just kidding around - I really dont know how to drive this car to its full potential yet. I can see it getting away from me if I really got on it.

You know the really frustrating part about getting this car (from a Protege owners perspective) - there are a TON of sites out there to answer any question you might have about the Camaro. Even sites that are totally about how to install any mod you purchase (ls1howto.com & installuniversity.com). With good pics and writeups and everything. Theres even a site with nothing but sound clips, to show you how diff combinations of exhaust/headers sound (ls1sounds.com). We Mazda owners pretty much have this site and the other one, and thats about it. I know the cars arent in the same category, but still, its frustrating.

Yeah, LS1 support is huge. I give you only this one piece of advice about those sleds. Cornering. They feel stable entering corners at relatively quick speeds. However, they have critical oversteer when pushed to the sidewall of the tire. Given the power of the vehicle and the weight, just be careful or it will dogleg you into the woods. I've seen it so many times and is definetly the most common way they are wrecked. Look into getting some struts and springs and maybe even poly strut mounts and a sway bar to give you a better grasp on it's lateral grip. Wheels and tires never hurt. Then do your bolt on mods! Good luck bud!

Thanks for the advice Spicy. I have been trying to get a feel for the car slowly. Go around a curve, then punch it and see what the car does (making sure there is no one else around). What I really need is a huge open area, to do some sliding and drifting. But the power is incredible. I have already ordered a front STB for it. Also, I have whats called wagon wheels, and I hate them, so I am looking to replace the wheels and tires with meatier ones. And a magnaflow cat-back (gotta have a power mod in there too).

woot woot. 1500lbs of pure engine ;)

Yeah twilight, you can def tell the difference between my cars. This thing feels like a tank, powered by a rocket engine. My P5 feels like a go cart, powered by a decent go cart engine. :) But I like them both, even tho they are total opposites.

I had a 97 z28. I traded it in for this car. I hate that I did it but gas was killing me. Look hard at the Trickflow heads. With about 3k and drag radials you can pull 11s all day. And that was with the LT1, The LS1 is a better motor.
