I calculated from what im making and what i can do to my car and by the end of this summer i will have a pretty quick NA MP3....
i am ordering my AEM intake today, i will be ordering my Cams within the next cuple weeks... im going to have a custom exhaust made... Hopefully there will be a good header out so i can get that... then i will order the high compression pistons from Mazdaspeed.... im guessing i will be running about 180-190 hp... but im kinda worried i will have to retard the timing when i get the pistons in. but either way im gonna make it quick and able to beat the SI's and some of the domestic guys here....:D

Chris

You should take a look at NCMP3 he has most of the stuff u mentioned and still had aprox. 140 at the wheels. From what i hear this engine doesnt gain a lot of horse power from those mods. thats why im still waiting for some turbo results before i start droppin any money im leavin it stock for now. It would be cool to see someone stay NA and get around 180hp. Good Luck

Hey Paul, I saw your name and it reminded me of a post you were in a ways back..the pulling to the right thing...I actually had very similar probs. but when I had my winters on it was fine...anyway, I went back to the stocks last week, and it pulled again, gofigure. So I tried running 32psi on the left front and 32.5 psi on the right front, 29 psi on the back left and 29.5 psi on the back right...most of the pulling is gone...:) :D Hopefully the half of a psi won't hurt the wear at all. :p If anyone knows if this is cool to leave, its a good way to get your steering to pull to the right (even thought the alignment is fine)
Hope this helps...:D :D

Pass the covacie...(sp?:D )

I put my racing harts back on last weekend the weather is so wierd this year. mine is still pullin to the right.ill give the different psi thing a test hopefully it works. This car looks so much better with the 17's its like a whole new car.

Not really sure about the specifics of the whole "pulling right" thing... Under breaking/acceleration/coasting?? You should check for alignment while coasting, not under acceleration, especially in a FWD car. Also, remember one thing; road surfaces are usually crowned at a certain pitch to aid in watershed. These crowns can give your car a "pulling" sensation, and the car isn't actually pulling. Try, in a parking lot, [or on an empty road(be careful!!) in the middle of the road staddling the "crown"], coasting~~no acceleration... see what happens, it the pulling is there. Also, this "pulling" may happen more readily with the stock tires, as they are a softer compound, and are less resilient to road surface imperfections.

I think with higher compression and tuning the timing with cam gears and tuning the fuel and ignition, you could get to 180 @ the engine. I bet I could get 15 more HP out of my setup through tuning.

sorry for not being totally specific but i meant 180 hp at the wheels... have you dyned your car yet NC???

Not yet. Closest dyno is about a 3 hour drive, but I plan on it soon. I don't think you are gonna see 180 whp without some serious mods. I am thinking about 12:1 compression, aggressive cams, and head work might get you there. You will definately have to do some computer work too, I doubt the stock ECU will get you there. But don't let me get in your way hehe. If you think you can get there go for it so you can tell us what works and what doesn't :)

180 wheel hp on an NA setup probably can't be done seeing as how none of us have the time or money to tune it. Extracting HP on an NA setup for a motor that doesn't have a whole lot of aftermarket isn't a realistic goal. In compairing our motor to some of the NA Honda's and Focus's out there who already have more of an aftermarket available and I'm definately right in saying that 160whp will be quite an achievement to reach. One of my buddies in Michigan who has a Civic Si put Toda B Spec Cams, Titanium Valve Springs & Retainers, Centerforce clutch & flywheel, MSD ignition, Nology Wires, APEXi V-AFC, APEXi N1 Exhaust, JDM Header with 2.5" collector, JDM Intake Manifold Godspeed Test Pipe, after all those mods and just under $4,000 including installation and dyno tuning, he only got 169whp & 132lb ft of torque. Those are considered low peak hp numbers, but that is excellent torque for an NA B16 motor. What I'm trying to say is.........if you want serious power, go with forced induction and nitrous. For the nitrous part of the story, go with Venoms Nitrous kit which takes the fuel system into consideration. It automatically accounts for how nitrous to use to how much fuel is available. It is also compatible with vehicles with no fuel return line like ours. Imagine if Spoolin was to ad a 45 shot to his setup. Hmmmmm :D
Nice.....

I've been telling ya chris, you need a turbo. and a complete turbo kit for 3K is CHEAP. The best turbo kit for impreza's cost's over 6K, granted it gives a lot more power and adresses everything shorts of head and transmission work. I don't know about that 16g turbo kit though. That's too big a turbo for 5psi. but 10, that would haul some ass. You know what else you need chris. A clutch. On some cars, it's been dyno'd a ~3-5HP increase just by changing to a better clutch on an other wise stock car. And all the power in the world don't mean a thing unless you can get it to the ground. I'm sure NC would agree with me. I don't think you need a 6-puck. Is that hard for a daily driver NC?
Anyway, i'm going to bed
