2003 Mazda Protege5
Hello. I am a new Mazda Protege5 owner. I traded my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4x4 Quad Cab with a 5.7 Hemi for it (I still owed quite a bit on my truck). Anyway, now I no longer have a car payment, my insurance is less and I get at least twice the gas mileage. I am quite impressed with these cars. I enjoy driving my car a lot. It seems like a little race car. I call it "the go-cart". It's quite a big difference from driving a big truck with 345 HP.

My 2003 Protege5:
Sunlight Silver Metallic
Black Leather Interior
6-Disc CD Changer
Automatic w/Tiptronic (which I think is pretty cool)
Sunroof
Side airbags (I think... SRS patch on side of front seats)
Power windows, locks, mirrors and keyless entry

No mods done to the car as far as I know.

This community/forum is very cool and I'm excited to make some modifications to my car, but won't be making too many. First on my list is wheels and tires. Then, probably tinted windows. In time, perhaps some aftermarket rear tail/brake lights. Oh yeah, and some 2007 BMW Z4 mirrors (just kidding).

I've already learned some cool stuff on here and seen some cool pics of cool P5s I'm looking forward to seeing more cool photos and sharing photos of my mods here. Here's my car as it is now:

Welcome :)

Did it also come with the spare tire subwoofer?

Did it also come with the spare tire subwoofer?

No. It didn't which I don't understand why not, since it seems to have every other option. Any idea if all '03 P5's are wired for those? I had the cover off but didn't see anything as far as wiring or any evidence that there was ever a subwoofer there. What about yours? Does/did it have the subwoofer?

am so proud that you were willing to give up that big truck. most american would not be willing and all they know is to complaint about the gas prices..... yet they have no idea how much different it would make to trade for a smaller vehicle.

congrats on the new car... or semi new. just get all the regular stuff done.... oil change and stuff. and by the way get a new intake tube.... regardless if it is broken or not. they all eventually break.

Congrats on the find. Looks great. Mine has 200k+ and would love to find another w/ lower miles.

My understanding was that partway through the 03 model run, they replaced the included roof rack option w/ the subwoofer.
Don't know if the subwoofer was an option before that, or if the wiring was run just for that option when it came out.
Hope someone here knows.
I do like the subwoofer in mine.

Good luck.

No doubt that little sub is nice. I'm a family man with a wife that "hates bass" so that little woofer gives me what I like but isn't too much for the wifey.
