I know there have been many mileage threads lately but I don't think any have been like this...I even took a picture so you all believe me!(nana)
This is my latest average and so far the lowest being the predecessor to my latest 17 average.
Seriously...thoughts?

trip computers arent the most accurate.

are you actually calculating when you get gas? dividing the miles by gallons filled?

Yes and usually it is very close to spot on. I did about 150 miles with about 10 gallons.

150 miles with 10 gallons seems like a joke to me.. you are filling up the car and it is only taking 10 gallons after you only drove 150?? are you cycling power and zeroing out your tripometer? you do realize you have more then 3 gears right? for your milleage to be that far off there is something seriously wrong with your car like a leak in the gas tank or somewhere...??

in order for me to see an average of 15mpg on my car, I have to drive on nothing but city streets and hammer it every other stop light/sign. Hell on the track(road course) I average 9mpgs. I am still going to blame driving habit. Put it in D and drive like an old person

tsunami, it's hard to believe but it's true. I mean The Expedition is getting 14.4 in the city right now and my engine that's half the size gets comparatively worse mileage. I zero out EVERYTHING in both trips and the trip computer each time I fill up. I barely use the manumatickle-my-funny-bone thing cause it's does about the same shifting wise with me and the car. The transmission is what I've always been saying. Maybe there's something messed up or clogged in the engine too??? I'm really not sure, Mazda says it's cool.

GoFast, I know you probably don't believe me when I say I drive it nicely but I'm telling you man it rolls up to 3.5-4K on the tach in first on my acceleration and then I roll it at a steady 40-45 most days on the way to and from the campus. Which is about a 6-8 mile journey there and back everyday. I mean I used to get 22 on the same habit but something snapped and teh car went axe murderer on me. lol

i think you just need to start over to be honest. trade that thing in, sell it, blow it up, just get rid of it

i just filled up and with having my summer wheels and tires on (a bit more spirited driving to say the least) i still got 30.5mpg... just go trade it in or something there is no way it should be getting that for mpg.

I like those options...:D
Gonna see if I can have a Mazda engineer from Japan come out to check it first. If that doesn't work, then the plan is lawyer up and dump it.

tsunami, you've got the idea. As always, ideas are easier said than done.

I'm sure not but it would be worth a shot to try, you never know what'll happen. Sadly, I have to get up to Mazda this month so I'll talk with them as usual.
