After years of driving used cars and hand-me-downs, all of which had many problems, I decided that I NEEDED a new car. Our family recently came across a large amount of money, and I was given a good chunk of it to spend at my leisure.
At the time I was just looking to find a used Prelude SR-V. After exhausting every resource (newspaper, internet, auto traders), I wasn't able to find what I was looking for.
One day my girlfriend and I decided we should just get something brand new. We drove down to some local dealerships and started scoping things out. I looked at the Honda Civic, Jetta, Golf, Corolla S, and the Sentra. Our last stop was at the Mazda dealership. I really just wanted to take a look at the RX-8 just for fun. We ended up looking at the Mazda 3 Sedan. The color didn't really catch my eye (Orange) but I loved how it looked, especially with the GFX package (Sporty bumpers, sills, fog lamps, moonroof, 17" rims). Needless to say, we fell in love.
So we asked the salesman for an info package on the Mazda 3. He gave us the package, and also gave us a full demo on the car. He showed us all the ins and outs of the car, and we just couldn't believe how amazing the car was, and how great the price was.
So after talking it over with my family, we decided to go ahead and make the purchase.
My dad knew someone who worked at a different Mazda dealership (Weber Mazda in Edmonton, Alberta) so we decided to go there to try to work out a deal.
So my mother and I went there and took a look around. No salesman would come talk to us for about 10 minutes, when we were finally able to flag one down.
The salesman there was rude and uppity. He told me that there was a 3 month wait on the 3 because it was such a popular model. He wasn't all to sure though, but he said if we put down a $3000 dollar deposit he'd be able to tell for sure.
Well his attitude rubbed us the wrong way, and my mother put up a big fuss and walked out. The guy pretty much assumed that we didn't have the money and was too lazy just to look for a car for me.
We ended up going back to the dealership (Sundance Mazda) that my girlfriend and I had originally gone to to look at the 3.
We flagged down the salesman that I talked to before (Bill Wong) and he was happy to look for my 3 for me. He told me he'd be able to get the car down in 10 days. So we put down the deposit, and I went home a happy man.
We were so unhappy with the service we recieved at Weber Mazda, that we called to complain. We had a talk with the sales manager and he apologized profusely and ensured us that they don't run things that way.
We took off for a vacation, and when we came back there was a message on our machine. The manager at Weber Mazda, had called us to let us know that he observed the salesman that was helping us and he had fired him. It seemed that he was pulling this trick on other customers and pissing them off. It was because of him that they lost our $25k sale, and who knows how many others.
2 days ago I picked up my Mazda 3 GT with the GFX package, in Indigo Blue and I absolutely love it. It turns heads, and I get tons of questions about it from strangers.
If you're looking for a new Mazda, and live in the Edmonton area, make sure you talk to Bill Wong at Sundance (180th Street, right by Yellowhead Honda and Nissan). He's a friendly, honest and knowledgeable salesman.
I know it's a little long, but thanks for reading my story. I just had to let people know about Weber Motors. I'm sure that things might have been fixed, but I have heard other complaints about the service there. Just goes to show you that you gotta be aware, and the moment that you think you're being taken for a ride, to bail out.
