the headlights make a difference with light...and with appearance...it actually looks mean with those eyes (negated by the dumb smile of course)..makes out US version look like it came from big lots ;-(

Has anyone investigated whether these headlamps would be a straight swap, and their cost? Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere.

as far as i know the lamps are a straight swap but bulbs etc are diff, in my cars manual it shows how to change bulbs for every mazda 2, projection headlights or halogen and on the diagrams the projection seem to be different wiring and bulbs etc

Wiring would be different, going from a 2 way hi low in one bulb to a low beam separate from the high beam, but theoretically all youd have to do would be just make sure the plug fits the hole in the projector and run the hi\low from there hid or halogen, could theoretically rewire it for lows and highs in separate bulbs but thatd be boring ;-)
