My Ghetto fitment job...Autoexe Replica Grill and Lip

Imagestation Autoexe Replica Grill and Lip

Here are a few images taken today of the Autoexe Replica Grill and Lip. I got the products from Eclipse_21. And yes that is duct tape that you see around my bumper, and no its not going to stay there lolz :D Just did that so I wouldn't scratch my bumper. The original grill was a b*tch to take off at first, see there are 2 screws at the top corner and 4 plastic retainers, the tough part was the three locking pins on the bottom of the top grill. Basically just shove a flat head between one of the locking pins and lift, it'll pop up just do the same for the other two, whole thing came off easy (no need to remove the entire bumper) took a matter of 10 mins to figure that simple thing. I doubt it would break they are pretty thick locking pins.

Anyways heres the link to the images again...

The fit for the grill is awesome no fitment issues at all. The grill itself has been lightly coated with white primer, but will still need to be sanded down to smooth out areas where it looks to have been brushed but not sure. Over all it looked good.

The lip looked better then the grill, most of it was pretty smooth. My complaint would be the two side ends (the ones you will need to drill holes at to attach it to the bumper), basically each side needs about 1 millimeter of bondo or just a spray of primer (sand down to level), what I mean is that theres small scratches there. Last thing would be that its a tight fit all around except for the last 1.5-2 inches where the sides are not flush with the bumper almost unnoticable (especailly when its painted). This can be the fact that I'm just test fitting and the fact that my bra's button attachments are there preventing me from fully closing it tightly.

Well on to some sanding today/afternoon what ever time it is. Probably won't be able to paint it yet until I get a new front bumper, I'm not planning to not having a car for a few days, so I'd rather get another bumper and install the lip and gril on that bumper. At least I'd have a spare bumper in case for unforseen mishaps:D

Pretty in depth explanation. Nice! :D

Awesome pics too! Would you mind if I used them as reference pictures for my thread? :)

Eclipse_21: Yes you can use the pictures...I'll be taking more once I start prepping and sanding.

As for taking the grill off easier, how else would it be easier? It now only takes me 1 minute to take it off now, since I know how. As for prying it off, it may have sounded like that. All it takes is to remove the screws, and the plastic retentions, and use the flat head to lift the grill out of its 3 plastic retentions on the bottom of the top grill.

I dunno more pics to come this time in the day light :D

Ok was lazy today so I wasn't able to get any new pictures done. But I did start to sand the grill. I started off with 150 grit sand paper to all the way to 600 grit (didn't think 100 or less was needed), I sanded just the areas that will be seen and went to the areas that had low areas (i'm sure a coat of primer would have filled them but I'm kinda a perfectionist). So tomorrow I'm off to get two spray cans of white primer, and get started with the lip (which the two sides need some work done).

Also...damn grill is smoother then a baby's butt:D

Anyone think wet sanding it with 1500 grit is to much? and would it being so smooth make painting it much harder? I'm thinking once it gets to the paint shop they going to primer it again anyways, am I right on that?

Update: I've reinstalled my lip on the car and made no adjustments to it, and well looks to be flushed with the sides. Unfortunately there are gaps now at the fog light areas (I can see right through to the ground), its about maybe 3-5 millimeters wide. Oh well going to see how it'll fit with a new bumper coming tomorrow, if I still get gaps, I'll have the body shop figure it out.

Now what am I going to do with this slightly scratched up bumper, hummm I wonder if I can modify it and install it to my '95 Corolla DX:D

Do you guys have a website for Eclipse_21? I would like to check it out.
