My First Carnage with the Speed!!!

So I've had the car since the end of August and just tonight coming home started noticing a massive "clunk" coming from the rear end of the car when I engaged and disengaged the clutch where the engine RPM's didn't match the speed of the car (hope that made sense).

I was freaking out cause I've never had any issues w/ the car or my previous mazda which was a 3. Started calling friends to find out what I should start looking into when I got home and most of them said rear diff mount. Great!! I thought as with just moving, just starting a new job, just...fill in the blank, I wasn't really ready to drop money into the car and have some down time.

Sure as s***, as soon as I got home and changed outa my work clothes I crawled under the car and this is what I found:

So now I guess I'm stopping by the dealership at 7:30am and dropping it off to see if they can fix it. Sucks cause my warranty I think just ended like 1000 miles ago. So hopefully they'll take care of it.

had that s*** happen to me a month ago...broken rear diff mount bolts. they have to drillout, re-tap new stronger bolts (factory ones fail a lot) and did i mention they have to drop the rear diff. all the way out. sucked ass, but i got mine covered. common issue with the factory bolts

Well hopefully the same thing happens with me! At least there's one positive note to all this haha, thanks!

try to bring in anything that confirms the lack of quality of the original bolts. let the dealer know right away that you have heard about the issues with them.

my dealer told me it didn't matter what i did, or how hard i drove, that the bolts shouldn't ever snap like that. use that s***.

^^oh I will for sure! Our club out here also has a decent relationship with the dealer, so I'm hoping that helps out too. I guess now its just a matter of waiting till tomorrow to take it in. Damn i'm impatient haha.

since my diff mount hasnt done this yet, i wonder if by being proactive we can swap these bolts out prior to them breaking? anyone done that already? suggestions? what kind of bolts did you use, grade 5 grade 8?

omfg, they full on SNAPPED?!?!?
jeeezuz, i got 2.5 months left on my drivetrain... FFS im taking it in ASAP to have them check it out.
If they are still good, i might also be proactive and change em for something beefier.

like jaymangrum is asking, yall know what bolts to change to?

i can find out what they put on mine, but the stronger the better. go for 8. google it, but depending on the test, 8 instead of 5 makes a big difference.

ill do some checking around online for it. my gut tells me grade 8, but im wondering if that might be too hard and damage the diff housing. I wondering if the softer 5's would be better...so you guys know what im thinking.
Off to the internet to find ideas and answers i go.

This is actually a pretty common occurrence. Good luck with the dealership! If they say you're out of warranty, I highly recommend replacing it with a high-quality aftermarket part.

The CP-e piece is what I would recommend, but the SU part is still definitely better than stock. I don't remember off the top of my head if TurbineTech makes one or not.

Well this is the front mount, so turbine tech is the only one i've seen. But, Well Mazda said that because the bolts were sheered and not shattered it was my fault, i.e I hit something. So therefore its not covered under warranty. I'm a little pissed right now. Just gunna leave it at that until I cool off a bit.

And apparently its not a part covered under the drive train warranty just fyi, or so I was told from Mazda corporate.

tbot, they fed you a line of crap, others on here have had theirs fixed under warranty. your dealer is feeding you some weak sauce BS, call them out on it.

Oh I did!!! I even called corporate Mazda and they wouldn't do anything for me either. I feel so disrespected right now.

Find out who the district rep for Mazda is and speak with them. They normally know the dealerships at a more personal level and might be able to suggest a course of action. Our local district rep has always been very helpful in resolving problems.

^^I tried that route and no one would give me any info. I guess the actual rep looked at my car and denied it as well. Apparently I have "too many mods" and there's "too much torque" and I was the one who sheered them off.

BTW, I have a 3.5" tmic, cp-e cai, custom tip, su RP, a Labonte MS Stage2 water/meth injection, and a TWM stage 2 sts. So basically in my opinion, I'm back to stock HP/TQ at sea level since I"m a mile high.

Bunch of BS.

ps, does anyone know the part numbers for those two bolts? They're the ones for the rear diff front mount that bolt into the diff itself on the passenger side of the car.

right off my work order from my fix: h260-34-037a = 2 bolts
i had to have other stuff as well, since my whole diff. case got fu(ked. sorry to hear brother.

^^you, my friend, are a rock star!!! Thank you!!! Finally something went right with this haha.

I'll post tomorrow night when I figure out what happens with the repair, but shouldn't have any issues. The guy/buddy who has it is the only one I trust to work on my cars.
