My ETS TMIC is very hot...

Ok I got a used ETS TMIC a few weeks ago and it was always cool to the touch whenever I drove home (20 miles) from work. I could pop the hood and lay my hand on it and it was always very cool.

It just started getting a little bit colder outside this week. But for the past 2 days when I pop the hood, the ETS is very hot. The fins, exterior, sides, and the shroud are all very hot and the rest of the engine bay feels hot as well.

I know the tmic gets hot yadda yadda the engine is always hot, and I'm not sure if this is because of the colder climate, but I thought the ETS was supposed to always stay cold. And it was for the past week since install, but right now it's been very hot when touching it.

Any oppinions on this? Am I just buggin on this?

it was always cool to the touch when i tested it before. now its freakin hot as hell. just not sure why the change all of a sudden when I drive just as far everyday from work and it was always cool before

Well bro, it's cuz the surrouding air is cooler therefore your intercooler will feel "warmer", where during the summer ambient air is warm so therefore your intercooler will feel "cooler". Just my 2 cents.

its not freezing like in Connecticut or anything, it's just about 60 degrees which is colder than it had been. I was surprised because I popped the hood and it was really hot. The intake itself is cool to the touch but my tmic, shroud, the cold pipe and the bov are all burning hot. Just didnt know why they were like that when every other time they were cool.

If you have a dh check your IAT.

i dont have one but i should borrow one from my local friend here. Is there a specific temp it's supposed to be at so i can tell if its higher than it should be? Also, my intake is perfectly cool, its the tmic thats burning hot, not sure if that would make a difference on the IAT, or if thats read from the inside?

I just don't think you're comparing the same scenarios as before.... If you're boosting properly, the TMIC is working... Maybe you got a small bird stuck in your hood vent....

I'm assuming that you've already check to make sure your BOV is not set to tight? cuz Surge could cause more back pressure for the turbines in the turbo and thus causing more temps? or maybe you should check your radiator fluid to make sure you've got adquite fluid levels.

Just trying to brain storm maybe this might help.

yeah no prob dude. I havent tmpered with my bov adjustment in a while so it should be the same, but my coolant/radiator hose blew a month ago and the fan shot the green anti-freeze all over the place, but I fixed the tube and refilled the radiator fluid. no extra hot temps have been seen on the stock dashboard temp guage. Ah well, it may have just been be tripping because it was cold outside so it probably felt like it was much much much hotter. But in all honesty it was boiling hot when i popped the hood

Hmm, maybe you should check the fluid again just to be sure, or maybe something might be clogging the flow since the blow out.???

Does it still perform the same ?

I only have had it on for a week, so i'm not sure how well it really performs, i havent really floored it at all to tell. would there be a way to tell that its working properly? Like if it stutters when flooring it or hunts/jolts?

what happened was the tueb that comes from the resevior right above the fan wasn't secured right and it fell into the fan and the fan chopped it up and it emptied the tank and the fan blew it everywhere, but it was a small cut in the rubber tube. It should be ok i think.

I think everything is fine, don't worry about it anymore until something blows up?

on a side note...my ets always felt cool to the touch, unless I parked it somewhere for a short period of time, or had encountered traffic.....that is where the tmic fails...traffic and traffic lights

Mine feels cool a lot of times but sometimes it's hot. You have the 3.25 right, I have the 3.5. After a solid 30+ minutes doing 90-110 on the highway I stopped the car and turned it off. The intercooler wasn't cool, but it was touchable.... probably the warmest it could be without burning your hands.

what are you doing tonight? you can borrow the dh if you want for like a week or so if you need it. monitor both AAT, IAT and BAT. i have a screen just for you :)
