My engine blew up!!!!!

I was driving home from work going 80 mph on the freeway and bam!!!!. The engine made a loud noise and smoke came out of the hood i pulled to the shoulder and the car shut off. I opened the hood with a towel, because it was soo hot, and a burst of smoke came to my face and i saw fire in the engine bay. I ran away as fast as i could. The car did not explode but the engine is pretty much totaled. No mods were made so the dealer has to take care of it. They cannot figure out what was wrong with it and what caused it.

But yea, wont be buying a mazda again. (headshake

And i only had 10,000 miles on it too. Damn the thing was still new.

Whatever, this is an excuse to buy a new car, Lotus ExigeS FTW
 
wow mang, im sorry that had to happen! atleast your ok bro, yea all turbo cars tend to have that problem, fire i mean lol...jk. It is kinda strange for that to happen though, u must let us know what caused it though, when u find out...!! Good luck though with the lotus...gas saver, and track monster!

Faulty fuel pump possibly?
 
That suxs..Make sure you let us know what caused it.I bet it was the fuel pump since there was fire right away and the car died..Who knows tho.

Was the # 4 rod through the back of the block?

Im worried because when Im driving agresive I can smell something like burning inside that is coming from engine bay....or its maybe smell from all plastic when i have hot air directed to cabin

Ya know I have the same thing.. it smells like a carbon burning smell though. If that makes any sense. And about the OP I had the same thing happen to me in my 98 Eclipse GST... but it had a very extensive list of mods done to it.. I was going down one of the main roads here.. going about 70-80 mph.. and boosting @ like 10 psi, I crossed the intersection (actually by where our mazda dealer is lol) and the car completely shut off on me.. I didnt know what was going on.. till I tried to put it in gear and it wasnt going.. I was with my buddy and I popped the hood and as he tried to open it.. A huge flame ball shout out at him. Of course I quickly jumped out of the car (the fastest I think Ive ever moved in my life) and called the fire dept. A guy stopped and went and got a fire extinguisher and was able to put it out before the fire dept got there. Route of the problem was that it had a oil leak (which I knew about and am a dumbass for not fixing asap) and then a hole in the downpipe (which I didnt know about) and when the two came together.. the oil combusted and caught the engine on fire. For it only burning for like 2-3 minutes.. all the accessories (ac, Power steering, timing belt.. .etc) were destroyed but everything else.. the turbo, manifold, block, head, cams.. etc were in fine condition. Insurance gave me what the car was to be paid off for. Just thought Id add my story so you dont feel to left out on this.. cause it does happen to the best of us sometimes.
 
I might be just to picky on smell when Im racing Im turning hot air to go into cabin so engine will let off some heat...i dont have any leaks
