My deck Crapped Itself!

yea mine crapped on me too..the flipout never fliped back in lol now i have a panasonic...stock speakers sound so much better

I'm doing the Pioneer 9800BT bluetooth deck in my bosses daughters car this weekend... thing looks insane, I'm totally jealous that 16yr old girl is going to have a better deck than me, but that's what happens if you don't upgrade every year...

Do not get a Sony deck... even there best models are garbage at this point. Do yourself a favor and go with an Alpine, Eclipse, Kenwood, Pioneer or Clarion. Any of those brands are 1000X better than the best Sony

Based on what? My last three decks spanning about 11 years have all been Sony and I have little to no complaints. My original CDX-C490 is still going in the car I sold. I'm not in car audio now but I used to work in the biz and I stay up on things as best as time allows, and I chose Sony because of the feature set, reliability, SQ/power output and excellent FM sensitivity. The CDX-F7700 I bought for the MSP 2+ years ago was about the only thing available with built in high/low pass adjustable crossovers as well as a 7-band EQ which allowed me to ditch my external crossover and EQ, and it's loud and clear enough that my friends thought I'd reinstalled my mid/high amp. (It's still not in and I don't really feel the need for it.)

That said, I made the mistake of buying the MEX-1GP for my wife's car from Circuit City and was not at all impressed so it went back. The feature set sucked compared to mine. The other GT series in the stores weren't any better, and I was about to give up on Sony when I found out they offer models not sold in the big box stores. I checked them out and ordered in a CDX-GT705DX for her, and am so impressed I'll probably order one for the MSP. On top of everything else I wanted, it has a 13-band EQ for every channel. Very handy since her front speakers are 6.5" and her rears are 6x9. Now the 6x9's get exactly the signal they're best able to handle without overpowering the fronts. You can do some cool stuff with this puppy.

Sony's amps and speakers may suck for all I know, but I still find their higher-line head units hard to beat. Ok, rant over. Good luck with your choice.

Lisevolution is right about Sony. When it comes to car audio you can do much better for your money. Sony is only in the market for a presence. They don't really contribute any new technology and I doubt their car audio division posts much of a profit. It's all junk if you ask me. If you are going to spend money on something, invest in a company that takes pride in their car audio components. Alpine, Eclipse, and Clarion sell car audio...and that's all. They know their market and they know how to make quality gear.

I don't argue that the feature sets that come with some of the Sony radio's aren't better than comparable priced units from other companies, but overall sound quality and performance is definitely not anywhere near the other companies. If you want to use features as a way to judge stereo performance then every Alpine unit would be considered garbage. Alpine generally packs the least amount of flash per dollar but if you're building a competition stereo they're more than likely the first company you're looking at. Car stereo used to be my business and in fact my favorite deck of all time (and I've had way to many to list here from every company) is the Sony Mobile ES CDX-910. That radio was about 5yrs ahead of it's time. It was the first one to feature 24bit burr-brown decoders, and super white LED's for the display. After sony got rid of the Mobile ES line they lost all credibility within the car stereo space. They used to be one of the best now they're just as good at getting a Dual.

Bottom line is if you want the best sound quality stay away from sony... if you want some bling in your dash for cheap then they're great but it won't sound that good

My decks motorized face doesnt work anymore.... Im def going Alpine because Ive had that in my past cars and I love them, never had a better sound. I could turn up the systems in my old cars and blow everyone away. But anyone lookin for a deck.... go with Alpine... and Sony does suck, they even got sued if I remember right for overrating the power of their car audio.
