My AWD MAZDASPEED3 Conversion Blog

Wow this is a must see! Good luck with the build. I can't wait to see what kind of crazy modifications need to be done to have a successful build.

Hasn't the AWD thing been done already by DG? but definately very very cool.

awd ms3, total jealousy item! good luck, and stock up on mechanix gloves
Done! Blue nitrile FTW!

Well it wasnt done by them but yes. I am doing things differently than they did though.

^yup last time I seen it was on ebay for sale

It was i have spoken to the owner a few times. Believe it or not its an older guy and he now DDs it.

Congratulations on stepping up to such an endeavor.....I hope our fellow forum members really appreciate the complexity of what you are trying to achieve!

Are you trying to make this as close to a factory setup as possible; i.e. Fuel Tank vs. a fuel cell, retaining spare tire well, retaining back seats and trunk area?

Keep up the good work!!!

Yes! I want to be as factory like as possible. Maybe with a few aftermarket tweaks. This is/will remain my daily driver. I wouldnt say i am sparing no expense but i am taking every step to ensure that it functions flawlessly.

That's what I thought...... your doing it the right way!

it makes me think with all this work you're able to do why you wouldn't go for a RWD conversion.

im not sure if this is a way for you to "do it cuz you can" or "do it cuz it's unique." im not sure what the total cost of this project is, but im guessing with the money you're spending you might have been able to get a vehilce that is already an AWD

but if you truly want different drivability while still making it a DD, i would rather it be just RWD. that way you get better performance than a FWD, but also other perks like less WHP loss than an AWD, less strain on the front tires from wear, and a much more even weight distribution

overall i do think this is a very cool project, and i really wish i had the welding and machining ability (along with the tools) that you have to do things like this

Of course i could buy something else. Thats not the point of it. If i wanted to do what everyone else does i could just go buy an evo or an ls powered car. Thats not my style. If nothing more than my own enjoyment, its more to say that i could do it and it will be very sleeper. I mean how often would you expect a wagon to yank someone from a dig? I will be able to sand bag and launch in fwd only and be like oh man i messed up lets go double or nothing lol, flip a switch and game over! Being able to do things like that are what excitme about projects like this.

People expect corvettes, camaros, evos, and what not to be quick/fast. Rarely do they expect a short bus to be fast unless they already know what it is.

Some people just don't get it.......If I had the money and time I would do this also..... for the enjoyment and experiance!!!

when you find a ecu that is compatible with this motor to run it with a rwd setup let us know. awd works cuz mazdas already got a system for it. theres alot more to converting than hard parts good sir
