My Angel... Eyes

starting this project tomorrow afternoon. im going to work the bumper and get it all taken apart. then take my time through the night seeming its myself and i dont need my car through the weekend so might as well just be lazy and pass it through two days. lol. so my 3-4 hours turned into about 48. lol. big whjoop wanna fight about it?

just make sure you have some silicone to use for attatching the rings into the lights. And a good seal around the housing or else you'll get condensation inside the lights after washing it or when it rains. They are an easy fix but you wont want to deal with it.

yea for real. hahaha. ill eat it. im a good sport. ill def get some pics once im done. if not for the forum....for you logik. haha. so far its good. it only took me like 2-3 hours to get the bumper off the headlights out and the rings in. just gotta put them back together in the morning and stickem back in. i think total time itll take me about 4-5 hours.

I hope you tested them before the install tho. I tested my rings outside of the lights, and all 4 worked. Then we put them in and 1 didnt work, we didnt notice that until tghe whole car was put back together and the bumper was on and everything.... somehow during the install process one stopped working. So we took off the bumper again and put a different ring in there instead and that worked, but then the other one in that light stopped working after we melted the light back together. So we had to take it apart again and put a different one in there and then we got it back together and the silicone didnt hold so it fell down and we had to do it a 4th time... Basically the driver's side took 4 attempts to get right with the issues and retaking the front end apart again to do it. It was a b****. So I hope you have good luck with yours and the heat didnt burn anything out.

Even logik had problems with 1 ring right after install and had to wait for a new set to arrive in the mail to do the light over again. Thank god he had the extra kit pieces when I was there since 2 of them stopped working during the install process.

well i tested them when they were on so i hope they didnt break from now to when i got it all back together. im going to go gte some wire so i can hook them up through a toggle switch in the cab. well see soon enough if i got it all wired up right and if the s*** didnt break on me. dude ill be so pissed. this is the first +40 weather day this winter and its supposed to dip below 20 again this weekend. i wont have a chance to fix anything for ever.

on the different side i secured the low beam with some jewelry wire my gf had and used silicone to hold it all tight in back. the with the highbeam i used silicone around the whole back part to secure it to the lense. that s*** isnt moving unless i force it out. if this doesnt work im tellin you this'll be a biiiiaaaatch. haha. wish me luck. pics up tonight hopefully.

ok so i need some help. so i had it all wired up and ready to go and i hooked it up to a toggle switch. ill tell you the wiring in a sec. it all worked perfect for about 30 seconds when i was showing my neighbor aaaaand smoke. the power wire started to smoke so i shut it off and walah...melted power wire. the eyes shut off and didnt work and still dont even though the toggle switch shows power. i dont let it run for more than 2 seconds because i dont want it to f up again.

so heres the wiring.

starting with the eyes

eyes both grounded to the negative terminal of the battery
i spliced the positives of the eyes together in the cabin.
i grounded the toggle switch
i hooked up the power to the toggle/the ground to the toggle/and the accessory to the toggle.

and result....smoke.

any ideas? my interior lights dim upon switching on the toggle which i assume im drawing to much current hence the melting wire. please please please tell me i didnt just destroy my angel eyes.

1. the eyes dont have to be hooked up to the neg on the battery, just a good path to ground.

2. you should have to ground the toggle at all. it should be: power from source to a spade on the toggle and from the other spade should go to the hot for the eyes themselves.

ill give it a try. so is there any way i blew the angel eyes? or shoud i check along the line somewhere for.....something thats blown if it wont turn on? well.....ill start with wat you told me and ill go from there.

alright so i grounded the angel eyes to where the battery is grounded to insure a good ground...the only reason the toggle switch is grounded it so the light on the switch turns on...(i think because the light wont go on without that ground.) and upon turning on the toggle switch the wire starts to get hot and i dont even let it get to smoking.

(and where the hell would i replace a blown fuse along the way to the eyes?) ill draw a quick diagram so yoi all know what im talking about.

i have a blown fuse or something because they ownt turn on now. i hope i didnt blow them because it was to my understanding the eyes already had a fuse built into the power wire. i may have to cut and splice and new one in each because of this problem. but the power was the only wire to get hot from the battery. the rest were fine.

the angel eyes do come with inverters, but even then... with too much power, the inverters can blow out.

the inverters work just like a resistor. it gives u resistant from drawing too much power. u could of blown those out.

if that's the case, it's hard to tell if the inverters are bad, or the angel eyes.

if you can, replace the resistors. maybe the person u bought it from can also sell u some new inverters.

What size wire did you use. You should have at least #18. Note, the smaller the wire number, the bigger the wire and the more current it can carry without getting hot.

i ran 18 gauge. i checked the lights and they still work. i bypassed the resistor with a direct current to the battery for a split second to make sure i didnt need to replace the whole thing. were good to go. i just need to replace the resistors and figure out why my s*** fried itself. i gave a diagram on how i have it set up with 18 gauge wire as of now. any input on what i can do to fix this would be awesome. any questions will be answered within an hour because im fixing this tomorrow....or rather....i have to fix this tomorrow. lol. thanks for all the help guys.

aside from what rotus said i have no more ideas. But judging from what you said and the wire that actually burnt up i would say you need to get a heavier gauge wire. you did say that the wire from the battery to the toggle is the one that went up right?

yea thats right. none of the others showed any signs of problems.

i dont know what kind of current the battery to the toggle switch is but im going to try a thicker wire with a better insulation and see how that goes for now. its a cheapo wire i have had from walmart so im sure its garbage. ima go down to radioshack or something and try some better wire and re-do it all. ill let you know tomorrow afternoon how all goes.

btw its a diode thats spliced into the red wire. dont cut that out...ever. theyre good for like 1000 v. those will prob never blow.
