I was driving on an old back road out in the middle of nowhere. This 4WD was tailgating me, so I slowed down to let him know that the more he hassled me, the slower I would drive. I saw him back right off and I thought he had got the idea. But then he came racing up behind me, tried to overtake and misjudged. He hit my boot and rammed me off the road and into a ditch, where I rolled and then hit a fence, finishing on its roof. The car was an absolute mess, but I was alive, although I spent a little while in hospital (just checking over to make sure I wasnt seriously injured).
Some of this is just what I was told by the way, I dont remember anything after the hit from the 4WD, my parents told me I had been knocked out. Lucky no on else was in the car at the time. Apparently some guy saw my car and phoned for help. He never saw the 4WD though, that guy must have taken off.
The 323 was going to be written off, but my old man had a friend who reckoned he could do the job cheap enough so that we could afford to keep it. We figured we may as well, cos that would be cheaper than getting another car. So now the car is there, getting repaired. The whole front has to be pulled back into shape, and the roof has to be fixed (the front of it crushed in when I rolled), along with the repair to the boot.
The car was silver, but now its going to be resprayed a beautiful dark blue, and my motor had to be scrapped, so a new one will have to be sourced (havent worked out what to put in yet, something unusual maybe). The rest of the driveline somehow avoided any damage (I still dont know how), but my interior was wrecked. My whole dash got destroyed, and there are some huge dints in the floor.
Besides the hit I took from the 4WD, the back half of the car is fine, cos when the car rolled it pivoted around the front. I have sent a letter to Mazda praising them on the great vehicle they have built cos if I had been like many P-platers I know are, driving around in old commodores and bombs like that, I probably wouldnt be around now to talk about it. I now love my Mazdas so much cos I owe my life to their great design and safety. My story even got in the local papers there.
Unfortunately, I dont have a digital camera or a scanner to scan pics in; otherwise Id put some pictures of it on here for you.
