My 2006 2.3 S needs a new engine. I can't find one. Please Help!

Last Friday I sadly had a freak run in with a large chunk of ice in sub zero weather. The ice broke through the bottom of my front bumper area. The proceeded to almost totally break off the are at watch the bottom radiator hose connects to the radiator. These resulted in massive fluid loss. As I was at high way speeds. The motor took no time to roast. =(

My baby only had 25k on it. My insurance of course does not want to pay the $6K plus the dealer wants for a new engine. They want to spend about $3k on a used one from a wrecked car. Which of course will void my warranty. =(

I am trying to find either a low mileage used motor or one that is rebuilt by someone that really knows what they are doing. I am not having any luck finding one. Do any of you have any ideas of who I might contact about getting a replacement?

Do any of you know of a dealer that has discounts on their parts?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Best Regards,

Thomas Carey

I don't see why you'd want to help your insurance company screw you. Would you let them put a junk yard door or bumper on your car? Much less an engine that you have no idea the history of. Insist that they use new parts and don't settle for less. You have insurance for a reason.

It sounds like I don't have much choice in this. I have been told due to the age of the car. If they can find a suitable used replacement that is all they would pay for. They said I am welcome to pay the difference. Which looks like it would be about $3000.00. As it appears they may only be willing to pay $3000.00 for the engine. The price I had been quoted on a new long block is $6000.00.

where are you located at? i may be able to source a used one. i also am a supplier of new OEM parts cheaper than the dealership.

Hi, I have similar problem BUT I was on hwy and the black cup from oil filter blowout but when I saw oil warning light I pull over and shut off not even 10 sec. The car was taken to Schamburg Mazda IL, next day they called me than engine is dead and they want $8134 for new one because someone not using propel tool for oil filter cup and there are signs than it was damage and now blowout. I took car to mechanik shop, we call to extended warrenty which I still have on car, they said to open engine from oil pan to take look on crankshaft. AND that was the "pandora's box" for me the crankschaft is soo overheated than even (sorry I'm not mech) bearings(?) are damage, all off them. We think that it was a dealer fallt because they start car and move in on parking lot and drove in to garage but how I can proof it!!! I can do nothing!!! And now warrenty don't want to cover it. Where i can find new I mean good used engine? Anybody PLEASE help me.

i think you called me tonight, tried calling you back. call me this weekend or PM me, i will help you

the AGE of the car?

its 3 years old lol, an old car is like 8 years old....they are still making that car in the current gen...demand new parts, you are paying them monthly for a reason, they are going to try to screw you by telling you whatever they can

don't take no for an answer, read up on your policy and demand new parts

I don't know of any insurance company that will always use new parts in older cars. If you have a total loss will they give you a new car? No. they will pay you the used cash value of your car. if you carefully read up on your policy I think you will find they often use parts from wrecked or salvage cars.

You are not paying insurance for a new car, see the limits of liability in your policy. It probably reads as follows.

"Our limit of liability will be the lesser of the:
1. Actual cash value of the stolen or damaged property.
2. Amount necessary to repair or replace the property with property of like kind and quality."

The like kind and quality remark would indicate they are NOT required to replace your parts with new items.

Any good insurance will warranty their work and the work should not be done in a manner that will void your factory warranty.

Talk to your insurance agent and your car dealer regarding the manufacturer warranty. I feel you do have a right to be protected by your vehicle warranty until it expires.

but idk why they are claiming his car to be old...it's still a current gen mazda 3, and not even 'old' really

though yes, read up on your policy and see what you find...flash is probably right, but it's worth a shot to read up and find out for sure

Maybe I should have said used rather than older car. My quotes were from my insurance policy, issued in North Carolina.

well yea, but I mean any car that you have bought and driven more than a mile yourself is considered a 'used' car....(obviously exaggerated, but I'm just saying)

the insurance company can't really use that as a bias unless it's really old, or no longer in production...right?

Good points. I'd like to add:
Because the insurance industry is regulated at the state level, the decision to use or not to use aftermarket parts is depends on where you live.
Some states allow the owner to choose between aftermarket and oem.
Most states require at least some kind of notice that aftermarket parts may be used.
And there are a few states that pretty much leave it up to the insurance company.

This applies to aftermarket parts, not "used". If your insurance company insists on only using salvage yard parts, I hope your premium ain't more than a buck fiddy. Check a few other body shops and see if that's regular practice in your state.

Anyway, the whole point of using aftermarket parts is to keep cost down. Using all oem parts can push a repair estimate higher than the vehicle value...you end up getting a check for the current value of the car, instead of a car.

for 4k I will build you a motor, I got a Mazda6 block, and alternator, oem pistons, bsd delete kit and ranger crank....HMMMM??? lol
