ok so heres the deal:

I want to install FS-ZE pistons that as
AS WEBISITE STATES!

"J-SPEC 2.0 FS-ZE Piston set (1.8, 2.0)
These OE Mazda of Japan pistons bump your compression ratio to 10.4:1 Extra tuning and adjustments may be required. Comes with wrist pins. Uses stock Mazda rings (not supplied)."http://corksport.com/store/category/4qbu/99p-engine.html

So i called my local Hall mazda in brookfield which has a lot of techs that know a thing or two about aftermarket performance and deal directly with ken at protege garage. Randy told me that this is b.s! He said that the only pistons in the FS-ZE's or the J-SPEC ones are the exact same compression ration as our P'5s here in america. He says the the way the jspec fs-de or the fs-ze makes its extra power was from the intake manifold and the camshafts. Can this be true?

2nd lil' nugget, i saved the best for last :)
I also asked him about the ellusive MP3 ecu reflash, he said yes the can do it! Not only do they have the MP3 ecu's information on there computer but that they could infact reflash my mp5 ecu to a mp3!!! BBUUUUTTT! He said and i state with 99.99% accuracy "Why bother your 03 mp5 ecu is the exact same as the mp3's, you make no power gains from this. THe only difference between the two is that certain models of the mp3 has VTCS and some don't, it depends on when they were made. The only benefit you get from this tyler(my name) is that if we were to reflash your ecu to an mp3 you could then get the software update for it to make sure it is an mp3 w/o VTCS on it, of course you would have to remove that first."
I HONESTLY STOOD THERE ON THE PHONE DUMBSTRUCK FOR ABOUT 10-20 SECONDS!

first, the jspec fs-de has the same compression as our american 03 mp5's

second, our ecu's our the same as the mp3's!

he told me that the mp5's have more power than there sedan cousins and so infact have 99.99% the same ecu as the mp3(differences previously described) and that the only difference is manifolds and cams!!!

wow! is this partially true, all true, partially b.s or what?
this guy definetly sounded like he knew what he was saying and he said he was nearly positive about the ecu, and totally positive about the pistons!

i know the mp3 has advanced timing up top. so its not the same.

and according to theMans faq of all the engine info, the fsze are 10.4:1. and since ours are the same as p5's they are 9.1:1 so no they arent the same.

yeah i was at first a little hesitant to believe him, but i cannot say enought how much this guy was sure of waht he was saying to me, either way i am getting the mp3 ecu!

No he's wrong...on both bits of info...If he'll flash your computer to MP3 specs, I'd check the computer screeen to what he's doing prior to letting him do anything to my car.

Edit...and you don't HAVE to remove the VTCS...The MP3 ECU will just disable that fuction.

yea the proof is in the pudding. plenty of blown up mp3s when they started turboing them at 8 psi. lol

would anyone happen to know the part number for the mp3 ecu off hand, so i can check to make sure it is indeed the mp3 ecu over the phone rather than driving all the way down there?

FS9N-1881
FS9N-1881B
FS9N-1881C

All will work without problems....on a 2.0 manual FS-DE

the information is incorrect. the ECUs are not mapped the same. the FS-ZEs in the Familia/Sport20/MPS etc etc etc are indeed higher compression.

i know randy very well but if you are quoting him correctly then he is mistaken.

No, just different production runs...I've got the 1881B or C, I don't remember which....

The MP3 has a better power curve. Compair a dyno chart from a Protege or P5 ecu against that from a MP3 ECU.

P5 ecu is all over the place and the MP3 is a really smooth power curve. MP3 ECU has advanced timing and more fuel in the Air to fuel ratio.

You also gotta run better gas. IMO it's not worth premium to have a 17 second car.

Believe me, I already do that every day. :(

yeah i think its worth it, especially cause im getting the fs-ze pistons installed. cause who can say they have j-spec pistons? come on ;)

^^This post is a good sign. Notice how the PG rep "sells" products soon to be available from PG. ;)
