Mazdaspeed... of DOOM!
This car just wants to be wound out.... and I hear it, I really do... but I've been a good boy. Nothing over 4500 rpms, mostly never over 3000... but I"m only at 80 miles of a 1000+ mile break-in. AHHHHHH

I gotta find my Zen... I can't break the break-in code of conduct... this is going to be my race car... gotta make it last...

I wish I was out driving.

How many people here followed some sort of break-in procedure?

I had a freind how bought a Neon and just tore into it the first day he got it with less than 100 miles. He swore that you break it in like you're gonna drive it. And a year later he was smoking all the other stock Neon's. I think it's just psychological.

I made it to 500 miles like a good boy, but at 600 i was up to 4500rpms, 700 5000rpms and now at 800 miles I'm letting him whine a little every once in a while. Its torture to granny shift a new car.

Drive oh yes DRIVE!

I had to drive to Ft Hood recently to setup a small network, with a wan connect. I forwent the company car just so I get get my MSP miles up past breakin so I can drive it :)
I am longing to spank my little Black beauty just a wee bit.
Ok Im freaking out. I have visions of reliable speed parts dancing in my head.
I get milage so it cost the company a 126.00$.
This should take care of my first oil change and conversion to synthetic oil at 2000 miles.
Come on 2000k open open open!!!

When I broke in my ES I just made sure I took it through a wide variety of RPMs. I didn't take it much over 5K through until it had about 1000 miles on it. Everybody has their own opinion regarding break-in procedures, but as long as you aren't redlining the engine and constantly dogging it, you can still drive it spirited during break-in. I've got 40K miles on my protege and it hasn't given me one single engine problem.

I was reading my manual yesterday, and it says there is no specific need for a break-in procedure, but it has a few tips, like don't race it when cold, try not to keep it at the same RPM for too long, etc.
I have 1020Km on my car now. And that's after a 3 hour each way road trip this weekend, and competing in a Winter Rally-X with it.
