Mt. St. Helens meet - May 13th

The whole "scene" (I hate that word) pretty much died shortly after FNF came out and there were 300+ people going to the street races and everyone acting like a crazy ass. The whole "getting your car towed for racing or watching" pretty much eliminated the mainstream street racing.

I really could care less about stuff locally... I go to shows in Seattle often, but for the most part... I just do my own thing.

I notice a lot of people "do their own thing" these days...

Sadly things have died down... However either i'm just not normal... or... who knows what.. but when at parties... bars... anywhere... the only conversations... or entertainment I get seem to come from interacting with other car / auto sports... people....

So many people.. spending tuns of money on their cars... some of which are displayed at shows... most just sit at home in the driveway... and cruse to get milk every so often... Such a waste!!! I'm working with one local club at OSU.. to get more "use" out of this wasted money on our cars...

I don't street race... at least nothing more than going from 0-45 from a stoplight.. or pulling onto a freeway quickly... Lost my license a few times from speeding tickets (NOTHING to do with street racing... but still)... so i'm trying to clean up and get everything off my damn record...

ANYWAY.... I had a blast down in cali... went to at least 4 house parties packed full with import tuners... And thats the croud I get along with best... So whats what i'm trying to find up here in oregon... or help put together...

Well I and some others have been looking at stuff like that but it seems the only time we get together are at track days at P.I.R. (MAY 19TH) .I'll tell Shayne to put you on the list

Stop looking and start doing!!! Seems like these forums are hit & miss for most ppl... they only visit once a week.. or even once a month... Lets try something different... Maybe IM?

Yahoo / AIM / MSN.... If you don't have or use these.. something is wrong with you...EVERYONE has IM =)

My comp is logged 24/7 usually so for those of you in the Portland / Eugene / Salem / Corvallis areas... (even farther I don't care)

My info is:

AIM: PerfectXtreme
Yahoo: cvgordy
MSN: cvgordy@comcast.net

Drop me a message time... and we can start more "active" conversations about getting some s*** to do around here... Basically the way I look at it is this... If we... say... 7-10 people get to know eachother... and meet up often at various places.. or events... then ppl will start to tag along... And eventually you have big ass group and stuff to do...

I'm new to the mazda community... and even though I did a swap in my last car (civic with b20 and GSR tranny)... I never really got into any of the import activities around oregon... probably because there aren't many....

Anyway... I don't know a darn thing about P.I.R. and If I can talk with someone whos been involved with it for a while now... would be really nice... bring me up to speed on how it works.. when it works.. and such...

Well the reason I haven't gotten really involved is that I don't have the time to .Between my family and work I'm lucky to find time even to drive my car .
Well how P.I.R. works is that you find a club that is having a track day and you sign up .If you have never driven around the track before they put you in the novice group and have a instructor ride with you to show you the way to drive the track depending on the conditions .They instruct you the proper time to brake, turn in ,turn out, perfect line, etc and then see which portions you need to work on the most. If they think you won't f up to bad they will stop riding with you and let you go out by yourself and practice what you've learned. Now if you seem to think that you need to be moved up a group you should have a instructor come out with you and sign you off that you can move up a class but you can do it also by just saying your in a upper class when you sign up on another track day (not advised though because they will kick you down a class if you obviously can't handle it )
All car clubs require a helmet but there is some varience of ratings they will accept, just have to check which club wants which type. Come on out on May 19th (it's a spendy one but a fun club to drive with) and either drive or just to watch (which is free ).

So.... The track is only opened up for club events? And you have to be a member of the club... ?

The last track I went to... was only open for "events" such as a shop (or many shops)... sponsored track weekend... and anyone who showed.. and signed up could go... Then again that was just a drag strip..

I'll def show up for that upcomming event and get a feel for how things work...

I'm still trying to understand why so many dump all this money into their cars... and most of the never go to a show.. or meet.. race event.. anything of the sort... Apparently showing off to their friends.. or turning a head when they drive by is all they are looking for...

Personally... I think its cheeper to yell out the window of a Metro... which has the same effect... than waste money on a car... and have nothing to do with the auto community...

Drag racing and road racing are MUCH different when it comes to participating in the event. In drag racing you show up, they look at your car, you race. Road racing requires a license and classes. They want you to know what you are doing before they let you on the track.

Well some clubs do want you to join their club (BMW , Audi ,any others?) but most don't care. Now these club days are NOT RACING .They are "driver's education" classes .They are NOT TIMED EVENTS so in case you stuff a wall you will be able to get your insurance to pay for it . Basically they are a place you can drive as fast as you can without the cops busting you .
Now I've upgraded my car solely for this purpose .I could care less to put it in a show or drag it (this car is to slow to drag and if you can't do a 1\4 mile under 11 sec why bother). Yeah come on out and check it out

I ran 13.7 down by LA a few weeks ago.. and thats stock...

My 4 door family sedan will be down below 11 as soon as shops can pump out parts and work with me!!!!

But I did get an AWD vehicle for a reason... I hated my FWD civic... And i'd love to run the track.... So i'll be showing up to drift my way around PIR... Well maybe not drift... new tires aren't cheap... And IMO a waste of money to replace them all the damn time... I'm not super rich... I just have the ability to enjoy my car...

Meeting place for all of the Oregon people who want to caravan up to the meet

Hey all you Oregon people. Well I found a good place for all of us to meet up fpr the caravan. The Delta Park Burger King . I-5 & Whitaker Road, Portland, OR 97201
exit 307 I-5 north (same exit as P.I.R.). Turn right off of the exit and Burger King is just down the road to your left. Easy Freeway access . Now what sounds like a good time for you all to make it ?10- 10:30 and leave about 11 or do we need more time ?

That's a good spot to meet..... depending on how many people we might have to go over to Portland Meadows though.
