Hi Folks!

I just did my first hillclimb this past weekend in my Girlfriends autocross car, a STF Mazda2. Long story short, despite it DEFINITELY being a momentum car which I not Quite as used to I figured it out and managed first in class. But I was the only car in U6, so I guess I was last in class too. ;P
I did however run some significantly faster times than some MUCH more powerful cars in other classes. U6 is supposed to be the slowest class, not so this past weekend. The surprised look on other drivers faces when I informed them of my times was pretty enjoyable. Attached below is a video of my fastest lap. Sorry for the shakiness near the top, I can best describe the last section of road after the bridge as like driving on a field of basketballs. Enjoy!

Nice drive! I'm so used to autocross that I'm not sure I'd have the balls to drive that fast so close to trees.

I noticed your first two downshifts were after the corner instead of before. That may have cost you a couple tenths, but not much more.

How much practice do you get before timed runs? Do you get course notes before?

That's kinda in my area, someone on the local subaru boards brings his gutted/prepped STI to the Ascutney event(s). How doggy was the 2 on the uphill?

I want to give one a shot, but I've previously totaled a car on a narrow tree-lined road and I'm kinda nervous still.

Nice! I've wanted to do hillclimbs for awhile, but so far the closest I've come is the baybottom crawl/serpentine events that run through a mangrove lined road on a small island in the florida keys. That bumpy section at the end looked like it'd be a bit sketchy for the more stiffly suspended vehicles.

Sorry for the late replys, I'm not on this board much. My late reactionary down shifts where on my fastest runs, heal toeing into a corner killed way to much speed on this course. I found it better to just keep it floored and downshift as nessecary. Except for turn 13... The 2 was a bit doggy to say the least, I feel like I did pretty well. I'm banned from taking the 2 again after my significant other learned about some of my two wheeler antics, however I do have an NA Miata that I'm working on for a new hillclimd car. :D
