MSP went boom...but why?

yeah, I'm wondering myself. Still trying to figure out what caused it to blow. Found an engine from an '03 protege with 12k miles on it for 750. Any idea whether this motor is any different than the MSP motor????

They're all the same. If it is the 03 it'll probably need to get the recall fixed though, the whole vics screw in the intake manifold problem

Couldnt he just reuse his IM?

Another good idea is to get a blowby catch can. Monitor how much oil you are losing. I've been runnin the unichip for about 5k miles now with hard driving, barely any noticable oil which is good. My turbo civic would fill that can up in less then a 500miles, blew the s*** out of it.

Do you put it on the breather cover or between the PCV and the intake mani?

yeah, I'll be using the mani from the MSP motor. Time to make it a daily driver again. Now, to use megasquirt or not to use megasquirt?

pshhht tried that once. didn't work. so It's gonna be a daily. Might just sell it and go for a real-wheel driver. Something like an E36 M3.

What the hell? We can't even max out our cars with a built motor? Mazda techs, or smart peeps.... what has to be done to make 5th gear ok? I think it's redlining 5th that makes this happen but there has to be some reason why this happens . ?

I personaly, don't even use 5th gear because of everyting I've heard. I've probablt used 5th gear seriously, like 15 or less times. Only when I was stock also. So what is the weak link with maxing out the car? Is the 5th gear ratio muy sucko???

sucks for some people... thats why you get an EMS and reduce timing in fifth gear/high RPMS...

Personally, I have faith in my setup, and have seen 140mph a handful of time.

Dude. I remember you from the autox in Verona, va. I have the turbocharged escort that was behind you. Sorry to hear about the car, that thing was hauling ass around that course. Loved your car, good luck with the fix.

Hey I've been here before. Good luck with your decision. Though I will say I now own another Protege with the sole purpose of a drag queen.

so on the highway u are in 4th? 5th gear is fine to drive in just dont hit anyhting higher than stock boost and with ur new setup just watch the gauge and dont boost at all.

Maybe that's why your engine blew.

did you read the thread? do you know what's going on? Not to insult you, just a question.
In other words, not an oil starvation problem. Burned piston.

yup, I read the thread twice but I missed the part when you said the exhaust cam slipped a tooth, to help cause detonation. Anyway, I thought the hard cornering may have put more stress on the engine. I guess that's not the case.

nah, it really wasn't related. haven't seen the oil pressure drop due to cornering; had my instructor watch the gauge for a lap.

good to see you're rebuilding and planning to hit the track again. how's the head?
