Anybody out there had the chance to compare the MSP to the 6s? I've read great things about the handling of the 6, just wondering how it compares to the MSP. Been waiting a while for mine, and as you can tell, I've been considering getting a 6 because they're out and readily available.

Thanks

It depends on your needs, and desires. They are 2 different animals. I chose the MAZDASPEED because I wanted a performance car that required little (or no) upgrades, if you so desire. It's an incredibly fun car to drive. From the Turbocharger, suspension, and Kenwood Sound to the Racing Hart Wheels - this car rocks!

If I had kids at home, I might have chosen the "6". It's a great (original looking) car. In it's class, it's my choice. I'm used to the 'compact' genre having traded a '99 Nissan Sentra SE Limited. The MAZDASPEED is just what my doctor ordered.

Cheers!

i'm looking to line up with a MSP. if i do i'll post the outcome. i think us chicagoans are meeting up next weds. but we'll see if anyone wants to run. hopefully no po-po!

According to the test drive of the mazda 6, the msp is quicker than the mazda 6 inline 4 but a tad slower than the mazda 6 v6 model. The v6 model seems very strong. I test drove the performance packaged mazda 6s and they handle very well and have powerful braking. In hard cornering, the msp holds its ground better but the mazda 6s (inline 4 and v6) corner well nontheless. The steering of the mazda 6 is stiffer but the msp's steering is more responsive. In the braking department, you might disagree with me but the mazda 6 seems like it has more powerful braking. The interior of the mazda 6 is very good and the quality is excellent. I can't say it's better or worse than the msp because it's different. The msp's interior feels more sporty and more compact. The shifter on the msp is short and precise and the mazda 6's is a bit longer but feels very good. The shiftronic model of the mazda 6s is better than anything in its class because the feel of the shifting is tight, crisp and accurate. There is little lag time between shifts.
The ride in the msp is stiffer.
Overall, if you are looking for a performance car, go for the msp. If you are more of a family type, the mazda 6 gives you the performance and the interior space.

Thanks for the compliment. I do have an msp but while waiting for it, the salesman asked me if I wanted to test drive the mazda 6 since it had just been released then. I take it as an opportunity and I went with him for the test drive. I was very impressed how mazda has refined their vehicles. I really like the mazda 6 and wouldn't mind owning one either. The car makes you feel very confident because it's stable, has firm shocks, brakes extremely well and quick. It made me wonder if it had lsd because it gripped. I would choose the mazda 6 over the new honda accord.

I wanted the msp because I have been waiting for it for a while and the mp3 was a major success on the track. I use to own a
12 second Integra GSR and an Integra Type R but the GSR both cars were stolen.

I urge anyone who is looking or may have the interest to purchase a sedan, look into the mazda 6. I went into the test drive with a neutral emotion but I came out with a smile.

Orange Speed,

Do you have the inline 4 model or the v6 model? I was really impressed with the engine note of the inline 4 model because it has a very high pitched note, similar to those of a Japanese race car but on a smaller scale. The v6 model has the low bigger displacement rumble and sounds mean.

i just test drove a v6 5 speed today and i was very impressed. its very stable, has good acceleration, handling and a very nice mean low rumble in first and second. my bro came with me and was kinda thinkin of trading in his brand new 2003 accord for one. hes got 2,600 kilometres on his honda ;)

dont get me wrong though, the honda pulls even stronger than the 6 though, even with auto but its suspension sucks. the 6 is a better overall package for the more spirited driver and even costs a lil bit less

The honda accord does pull harder than the mazda 6. I think it ran 14.7 for the accord while the mazda 6 ran 15.1. I am using magazine times because I haven't seen the mazda 6 or the accord at the track.

it's in the sig.
the 6i = 4 cylinder and the 6s is the 6 cylinder. i love the sound of the 6 cyl. never drove the 4 cylinder tho.

Well, my mp3 handles better than the 6...
but i can't believe the 6s is faster than the MSP!!!

Our dealer finally got two today. Both 6i's. VEry nice, although in their base form, somewhat boring family cars. They are crying for skirts/wheels/spoilers.

Can't wait to see the 6s with a sport package.

Overall, nice build quality, sexy looking car. Wouldn't take it over the msp though, or my mp3, at least the 4cyl model. Trying to put an decent stereo in that is going to be a biatch.

got to drive the 4cyl yesterday....almost forgot to post my thoughts!

Anyhow, very nice handling for a car of it's size. Brakes were very solid, little body roll....for it's size. Power was pretty decent, I was amazed. I had the Auto out though....yuck. The manual mode was a little more responsive then the Protege's with the same tranny. Overall I was impressed, but I wouldn't trade my MP3 for it.

The interior was nicely done. This feels like a well built car. The dash looked nice....buuuuuutt, I couldn't be bothered with the way they have the stereo in it. Good luck getting another stereo in there. And the stock one SUCKS ASS. Then again the MP3 has ruined me for car stereo's for the rest of my life. The instruments were nicely laid out, although I wasn't overally fond of the style. It looked nice lit up though, all red again. Seats were actually quite comfortable with good side bolstering. Almost better then the mp3 in one way. Lots of room bla bla. Car sounded really sweet. I don't know why they put two small pipes on her though. They look really tiny. Stick one big one there, it'll look better. styling is far more slick then a Accord or Toyota. Just aggresive looking compared to them

There's another one coming in soon with the sport package. I'll take that out as well.
