MSP vs. Evo 8

How bout this, get $70,000 and get both an evo and a sti ;)

I'd LOVE to have an evo, I swear, if evos were available in canada...I'd say **** throwing money into the spec, and trade it in for an evo like 2-3 years from now.

I like the STi too...but man, the STi's suspension isn't nearly as good as the evos...it looks nicer, but it's also more expensive, and I really don't think it'll outhandle a Spec in autocrossing, the normal WRX already has pretty slopply handling...unless if Subaru did some major rehauling to the suspension for the USDM STi...

There should be a petition for Mitsu to bring the EVO8 to Canada :(

Man we shouldn't even be having this discussion. The EVO 8 takes the prize hands down. The license plate looks cool where it's at. I'm actually happy that they left it where it is, helps keep the JDM feel going and it doesn't block the intercooler. It comes with real seats adjustable HIDs, a carbon fiber spoiler, big brakes, awesome rubber the list goes on. The MSP is a great car for the price, but it in no way shape or form will ever match the speed or power of the EVO 8. Hell, how many other cars obtain .95 g on the skidpad.....The MSP gets a respectful .88g.

Geesh, I've seen mags list the MP3 as .90g's.

But, yeah, if someone could get me eithier an sti or evo I'd be really happy!

.....Mazda who?

I like the EVO, but the STI is the winner in my book...call it personal preference, but the Subi is the shizz!

However, if I had 30 - 35K to spend, I'd get my MSP and maybe a waverunner or two! 'Course I'd have a fun time trying to trailor them...

Buck for buck from the factory the EVO VIII is one of the best packages around. Looks aside, cause it is near impossible to compare looks across a group of people. We all love different aspects.
But performance wise the EVO VIII is superior to most cars out there on the road from the factory. The STI is decent but the EVO VIII will still beat it on a course. Take a look at the video in the video section of the STI. On the course a EVO VII was able to dog the STI the whole way. In fact the older STI was faster :)

Only problem my friend has with his EVO is the clutch. They purposely put a weak clutch in to keep from damaging the drivetrain. The clutch will give before anything else.
But he is already in the 13.0 flat range stock!
And handling is unbelievable!!!!
It is just something you have to sit in and experiance from someone who can drive to truely understand this.

*Btw comparing aftermarket to factory is never a fair comparion. You can generally take any car and add aftermarket to make it faster than a factory. It is much much much harder to produce a factory car with performance and keep the price reasonable.*

$70,000? For me: STi and a 350Z Track Edtion

Not convinced of Mitsu quality. Not that it really matters. I have my car; and I love it. It is unlikely I will ever spend $35,000 for a car.

Living in a colder climate, and having winter 5-6 months per year, and not being able afford two cars, an rx 8, 350Z just not an option here because of winter. So, an STI, or EVO is a real attractive option here with the awd and all.

But, for the price of an sti in Canada, I could very well get an rx-8 and a very nice 2nd car to drive on the bad days, so what's the point?

Small cars with way too big price tags makes them unreachable to me. I could always sell the house :)

Guess I'll have to "settle" for the Mazdaspeed for now until I get that raise!

35 grand would buy you alot of nice stocks right now that will have a much better turn around then the STi or the EVO8. They will perform better over the long run as well, then maybe you could buy a real cool car, like a BMW.

EVO this STi that blah blah blah this is gonna be another SRT-4 debate in a protege forum you all need to stock this crap if you liked th car that much more go and get one and shut up. Personally I think the EVO looks like someone beat it with a ugly mallet and teh STi is a subaru and I have never liked them.....personally if I had 30 grand to blow on a car my phone call would be into MotoRex and buy a nice used R32 GTR for 28 grand and then put another 4-5 grand in it and blow away most anything on the road and have a skyline....screw mitsu (pos) and Subaru I love my pro and i'm not getting rid of it any time soon but if I did Next car I own will be a R32 skyline.

Haha that would be great except the new Sti's for AMERICA only are 2.5L 300hp!! WE get the beast for once! Now you said they reviewed the EVO VII and its just like the EVO VIII. Thats all fine and dandy but the was a JDM spec EVO VII. The EVO VIII over here have different ECU's to run on lower octane and pass emmissions. Not they same car but still a beast no less! Yeah they got a 12.8 or 12.6 stock out of one! Thats a beast but the Sti is going to rain all over the EVO's parade! now what was the comment about the suspension being rally tuned on the EVO? Where do you think the WRX come from (World Rally Experiment) Those r Both 2 beasts!!! I wouldnt mind having either one!! (partial to the Sti!!)

Umm...2 of my friends have these cars, one has the evo and the other the msp. Now the msp hadles great but your friend obviously dosn't know how to drive because the evo's suspention and tires are way superior. Maybe he was scared of the power and didn't wanna send it sideways.
Now some of you are talking like you have actually been in an sti and know for a fact that the evo handles better then it, hate to break it to you but the sti will out handle the evo with the active dif. As far as the someone comparing the sti and a sentra in an auto x? You can't even say that a wrx has sloppy handling and so the sti must be the same. They are two totally different cars but the same because they are impreza's.
I love the evo and will love the sti too but I will just wait and do a motor swap on my car and I'll be happy.

Hey.....you're not supposed to point that out to us. :D That is a damn good idea though, investing your money in stock or something else that will guarantee a return. Anyway, I still say the evo is a great package, not to mention the sleugh of goodies already available for it. I think the only company who has anything for the new Suby motor is JUN. Of course I'm probably wrong. You can't go wrong either way, but I truly hope that the Suby keeps the refinement & ride quality that they've always had. I'd hate to see that thing end up being rough around the edges like the EVO. The EVO has alway been known for it's slightly stiffer ride.

I don't know if you know but a stiffer ride is better!:D I will always sacrifice ride quality for a stiffer suspention. If it means I have to go slower over crappy roads I will, I'd have more fun on the nice roads:p

The STI will handle close to the EVO, but I still give the EVO heads. Course it will have to wait till the STI actually comes. And the STI is not going to have the active diff. The EVO VIII has a active diff in Japan but they took it off and replaced with a 1.5. Same will be true for the STI. If you have found info pointing otherwise for US spec please share.

They are both great cars, and will be deeply impressed if the STI can perform better than the EVO. Course the RalliArt EVO will be here soon, with around 350hp. Course that will most likey sell higher in the 40k range.

Nice to finally see some Japanese Spec cars making their way over here without losing to much of the potentional on that ship ride over. :)
