So i guess i gona lose then, from wut you guys are telling me. Well I'm still gona race him, it's worth a try. Thanks for the advice guys. Wish me luck.

never know look at these #'s and is his car the same year as the picture. Most magazines quoted the new maxima is .3-.5sec slower than the 02-03Maxima. This one in manual tranny run's 0-60...6.3sec 1/4mile....14.9@95.8mph http://www.modernracer.com/nissanmaxima.html

why do they make these cars so fast? ...arent they suppose to be family sedans... catered towards families and the older folk ?

the msp is a sports car and it should be faster then a family sedan
:wtf:

They make them due to demand. Contrary to popular belief, lots of people really like a larger sized family sedan with some balls behind it.

I wouldn't really classify the MSP as a sports car. It has sporty handling and appearance though. The MSP is basically just a modified Protege Sedan which is an economy car.

Uh yeah, then why do the BMW M5, Merc E500/C55, Jag S Type R, Volvo S60 R exist ?

For people with families who can't afford/don't want 2 cars, they can blow the doors off "sports Cars" while hauling 4 passengers.

As for the MSP being a sports car.....I don't think so. The MSP is a tweaked sport compact sedan that looks great, is quick, and handles really well.

Yeah yeah but the MSP will eat it in the twisteeeez

Uhhh..I don't think many of you have driven any maximas..I used to own one..and have drivien all of the new ones..They are very good..Power wise..as well as handling wise..

Yup, I owned one too. It can definitely hang on pretty good in the twisties. It is pretty sure footed.

I had an '02 max but couldn't keep up the insurance. A 16 year old male, 260 hp...s***, $300 month for Liability only. Oh yea, the maxima would own your ass.

My 96 SE does alright. Once I get drag radials I plan to grab some lower 2.1 60 foots and 13.9-14.0 1/4 mile passes. Handling wise these cars aren't bad, but add some decent springs/struts, tires, and subframe connectors and this platform will amaze you. I still don't think my car could match the overall handling of the MSP. I am pretty certain I'd smoke ~98% of the MSPs in here all the while sitting in my plush leather interior :D

As for the 02-03 5th gen Maximas, these is definately the quickest and fastest stock Maxima platform. On average, the 6 speeds runs 14.6s@95mph and the autos get 14.8s@93mph. With some basic mods you can shave another .3 seconds and add 2mph. Some have gone as quick as 13.7-13.8 with simple bolt-ons. Currently the quickest 02-03 is an auto with a y-pipe, UDP, intake, catback, and removed seats. He's run 13.7@100mph.

As for the Maxima 3.5 VQ (255hp/240tq) being underrated, it is in terms of torque, but it's 255hp rating is actually OVERRATED. The 02-03 3.5 VQ makes more like 240hp/260tq.

my mom just got one. theyre pretty fast. its auto. raced my friend in his auto jag xtype. i had 3 people in the car an he was alone. we did it from a 40 role. i beat him pretty badly. anyone wanna raced with a msp around north jersey ill take it out.

I know a guy with 1999 Maxima who runs low 11s at the track. yea LOW 11S.
Even 1999 maxima will own MSP. I raced MSPs in my maxima and owned.

My brother recently bought a 2002 6-speed maxima and totally blew the doors off of my 2003.5 blue MSP. I took him out of the hole but that was all she wrote. Awesome power (torque).

i work for a mazda/nissan dealership, i'd have to say that the maxima would totally own the msp because of it's high amount of torque.
