MSP Totalled in Hit in Run

Well damn. My poor Speed has been totaled! It happened on Sunday night while I was on my way home. I was on the freeway getting close to home when I see this Civic Si from my rear view mirror speeding up from behind. As I was driving on the far left lane (fast lane), the idiot instead drove left of me on the emergency lane! He didnt realize that there were traffic signs and blown tires from big rigs left on the emergency lane. I decided to speed up faster because he was exactly on the side of me and he needed to get back in my lane to keep from hitting those signs. As I speed up, the f*#ker immediately swerved right, clipped me from behind (on my left side bumper) and caused me to spin out entirely across the freeway and head on into the far right cement barrier. Damn was I lucky that no other vehicles hit me while I was spinning out on every lane. Heres the worst part about it, the @$$hole took off and never stopped to help out. Yup, it was a hit and run. This guy is dead if I see him again.and trust me I will find him. The good news though, I left the scene without a scratch except for a bad headache. Speaking of headache, my airbags never deployed from the hit and I know they should have. Do I smell $$$$$ and/or lawsuit?

U SURE U WASNT RACING HIM MAN?.......happen to me once but i was racing and they guy went on the emergency lane and blew a tire on the rocks and s*** and swevered off in the grass luckly.....good luck to ya man...if he cliped u he ha sot have some dmaage...cops lookin for him?

yeah there were a few witnesses, especially since i spun out all over the freeway. but yeah i'm fine , its just hard to see that my car id f**cked!!!

man... sorry to hear that. Glad that you're ok. Regarding the airbags... that is one thing I am always doubtful about. I think a couple other speeds wrecked without deploying the bags. Anyone have any info on this? It should definately be brought up to Mazda... there could be a recall.

Im going to Mazda today to find out about the airbag situation. I think we should all have our airbags checked cuz that was a hard hit. I'm not sure what my speed was when i hit, but i know i speed up to around 70mph.

Damn, man! I hate to see that. These damned MSPs seem to be homing beacons for people who want to damage other peoples cars. Mine got hit in a hit and run 2 weeks after I bought it, but I had hardly any damage compared to yours. As far as the airbags go, there's definately something wrong there, but I doubt you'll have any luck getting reparations without having gotten injured as a result of the failed deployment. That sucks man, I hope the insurance company doesn't screw you. :(

depending on the angle of hit, the airbags might not deploy. If you get hit at 100 mph from the side, what good would the front airbags be? My understanding is that the impact has to be within a certain angle to straight on for them to work.

Sux man. Glad you're OK - sounds like you were lucky. It's hard to see a Speed all messed up though :(

DONT NEWER OBD2 Cars have "black boxes" that record speed?
i think it's only on the airbag system: it records continuously the five last seconds and freezes that information if the deploy signal is triggered. but since they haven't deployed....
maybe if they check if it froze (meaning the signal WAS triggered), then there's a big problem..

damn man, sorry to see your car like this. glad you are O.K., exept for the headache.

P.S. yeah you should find him and Kill him.

I've wondered about black boxes also. It would be good to know what my speed was when I hit the barrier. For those who have had there MSP hit in the front, did your airbags deploy? I'm just getting ready to leave to Mazda so I can find out anything about it. If anyone knows something about failures with airbags.....then Mazda definately need to know this as well as MSP owners.

Sorry to hear about your 'speed. Glad you're OK, too!

Just kinda curious, though - how come you didn't back off the throttle?
