I have had my sub replaced and the tech advised me that Kennwood has found the problem. The sub in our cars has a problem with the wires leading to the voice coil. When the sub moves up and down the wires are hitting the sub and falling off. If you get your sub replaced it will no longer have that problem.

Hopefully this is posted in the correct forum.

yes, that diagnostic makes perfect sense, as my sub will fade in and out sometimes. still need to get it replaced..

damn mine went out last night, ha after a few days with the car and this happens, ima just get a JL one.

Yes go with the JL 8'' W3 - 6 It is a dual 6 ohm voice coil. Its what i got in my car now. Bridge the amp, its not bridged from the factory, and turn up the gain 3/4 of the way and set your radio to your setting and let me tell you my JL hits alot harder than that kenwood does. Also when you go to put the new sub in take off the plates that are under the kenwood speaker grills of your back shelf. You will need to take off the whole rear shelf but it is very easy to do. Once you take off the plate, and you will know what i mean once you take off the shelf, it will act like ports into the truck giving you a little more boom for your buck . :)

i had that problem im glad im not the only one they should recall kenwood and replace it with better equiptment from pioneer or alpine. my damn head unit already went out and my cd is stuck in there!!! im a big audio goer and found out a while back that kenwood doesnt have the great equiptment, but it will do for now in this car im going for parts under the hood.

also is ne one experiencing a clunking noise when hitting a bump as if something may be loose in the back of the car?

Well if the sub can take the power its fine.
It's not the power that kills it, it's the lack thereof and the distortion caused by it. Turning the gain up is just cheating the amp into thinking it has more power than it does and will cause distortion. Not good.

This subwoofer problem, will the dealership fix it or do I have to do it myself??

The dealer should do that. Thats why you have a warranty. They fix it..

I turned the gain down on the amp and my sub sounds better. Maybe not as good as a JL..but I'm not an audiophile and unless Mazda buys it..i'm fine w/ Kenwood.
