Ok guys here is the deal, seems like I may have been wrong on the 9 speakers, I have had a audio friend look at the car and this is what he says,

2 tweeters in the pillar definatly work

2 speakers in the front doors definatly work

2 speakers in the rear door definatly work

1 subwoofer in the rear trunk definatly works
Picture already on this site.

However the grills in the rear deck lid that LOOK like speakers

are just cutouts with Kenwood grills on them, they will accommodate 6x9 speakers but DO NOT have them.

Sorry for all the confussion guys. My friend does say that the stereo is very well designed, but he is sourcing me some speakers and an amp for the rear deck lid now :D

Does the trunk-mounted subwoofer vent through those rear deck speaker grilles?

P.S. The paint in the door jambs looks metallic. Is it? I know the trunk and engine compartment are allegedly non-metallic.

Nope the sub vents directly into the trunk.

yes they are metallic

digi168..
thanks for the clarification... Would you rather have had 6 x 9's in the rear deck? or the 6" in the rear doors?

Can you let us know which 6x9" you'll be running when you do install them.

Something i just notice that is screwed up!!!
Where is the 3 head rest in the rear?????

there's suppose to be 3 head rest!.
this was one of the 1000+ changes for this car...
I don't even see one in your car...

Look at picture #9 in the photogallery

i want to see you the picture.

Wow, with all these questions directed towards you, Digi, I bet you almost want to be waiting with us again...um, no, not really.

thing is, is there room underneath the rear deck for the magnets? I mean, if you put speakers in there, the magnets stick down into the trunk, But, that's where they got the sub/amp mounted, So, is there any room left?

There seems to be room, the sub is mounted in the middle and the amp is off to the left and front of the deck lid. We will be taking out the plastic shrouding this weekend to get a good look and I will try to post some pics for you.

I am mostly on MSN digi168@hotmail.com and ICQ is 2145443

hey digi...this isn't about the speakers...but how stiff is the clutch compared to say a normal protege???

I drove an '03 P5 for a weekend and I would have to say that the clucth in the MSP is little stiffer, but much smoother than the P5, it really doesn't take that much more effort to engage it.

There is definatly no third head rest nor is there any place to install it.

You might get them in the states but looking at the picture I could see then not allowing in canada because it could obstruct your view out the back window. Our governement is a little over protective of us here. :bs: They want to save us from ourselves.

well, we can think of it this way....at least if we do get some speakers for the back, there's a place to put them, and grills to cover them so it will look like a factory done job. Too bad we couldn't use the existing amp to hook up some more speakers though.

for real....if i had known about this....i would have taken my mbquart 6x9's out of my old car before i sold it....i figured there wouldn't be anywhere to put them in the MSP....dirty bastards at mazda..hehe...at least i'm getting my car this month though....(crosses fingers)

My guess is that all the cars will be like yours. The only car (possibly cars) that has the trhee big headrests in the back is the orange one I posted, which seems to be the same one that C&D and SCC testing, as well as being spotted outside Mazda Canada HQ with California tags on it. Every other car, be it at SEMA, Texas, Florida, California or Montreal, has the small headrests and no center headrest.

No, i don't think this is right at all! This picture was taken straight off the MazdaUSA site and it's evident that there is a middle headrest. When this is shown in the site as a production model, we should get one when we purchase the car! bulls***, if it obstructs the rearview. Look into an european car, C Class, A4, even 3 series BMW, they are have 3 head rest!. You're telling me, that this isn't obstructing some of there rearview? :bs:

It obstructs the rearview to a certain extent, but you can still see cars or whatnot visibily above the headrest.
