MSP stalling after battery change.

My battery started dying on me monday night, had to get a jump twice.

Tuesday morning, I jumped it and suddenly it wouldn't stay running; it would idle, but died as soon as I touched the throttle at all. Put a new battery in it yesterday, now it starts fine but still dies. With the MAF unplugged I can limp it around.

It's got codes for MAF sensor and fuel pressure regulator (I was in a hurry and didn't get the exact codes, sorry). Took it to a shop, they found a loose ground and won't touch it (I swapped the engine about 2 years ago, it's been loose the whole time but never caused problems before.

1. Anyone know where my loose ground goes? It's a black and yellow wire with an eyelet, taped together from the factory with the starter cables; I've never had any problems with it loose, but it's a variable to eliminate.

If that doesn't fix it...

2. Has anyone else experienced this, particularly after a battery died? It went from fine to completely bad so quick, it makes me doubt the sensor just up and died out of nowhere. And without good MAF signal I don't trust any FPR codes, how can it know what pressure it needs without that?

I do have a SSAFC installed, could that suddenly be throwing a fit after 5 years of rock solid service?

TIA for any and all advice.

Try cleaning the MAF sensor. The black/yellow wire bolts to the trans case IIRC

If there is no change after cleaning the MAF maybe try to swap one with a local 01-03 protege or 99-05 Miata owner or even one from a junkyard with a warranty in case it doesn't work. It sounds like the MAF to me

check the intake and interrcooler pipes/hoses/couplings. If one is loose or has a crack in it, it can be why you're experiencing the problem. also check for vac leaks, start with the hose the goes to the solenoid that is connected to the pressure regulator.
