If anyone in my area wants to let me play around with there Mazdaspeed then I can do a little more but untill then the dealers don't let me around any more :D.

The weak ass flat sound its the kenwood speakers!

Yes a 1 volt preout will be basicly dead max and on many amps a 4 volt preout will be almost all the way down. Ofcoarse that is if the deck is really cranking out the spec'd voltage and they usualy don't. As long as you don't hear distortion and you know what your listening for then no problem. :D
well ive got the 4V preouts in my alpine 9813 but im pretty sure there is no distortion. unless there is any other way to check, ill probably keep the gain about where its at.
thanks!

i heard that too. so why does it sound better when u adjust the eq on the deck? ive heard it is clipping in oerder the "make" it sound better, but what exactly is the confounded clipping s*** i hear about all the time.... yea yea, i know it is a type of distortion, but to basic. what is the technical def. of this "clipping"? eb says get a 1/3 oct. eq, but that cost big $$$ for parts and installation. well that just to much for us po boys that just emptied out their piggies just to buy this car. I would love for u to play around w/ my MSP's audio... but NH is a bit too far for DaPoKidd!

The EQ is only useful in a highly involved and designed system otherwise they can be more of a hassle then they are worth.
I like them though.

Clipping Is what happens when the amp (radio or external) attemps to rasie the audio singla higher then it actualy can.
Sound waves are nice and rounded and when they clip the tops get chopped right the hell off and the wave goes form a nice sine wave and starts to look like a square wave. This is distortion and the cause of most speaker death.

does this include the little "bass eq" setting on the side of my amp? because with that on, it definately starts distorting. is it better to have this on and turn the gain lower, or gain higher with this off?

also, would the crossovers on the deck affect this at all? i havent set them cause i dont really know what all the settings are, besides the crossover frequency. i dont understand the decibel settings, would leaving them default affect the sub output?

People keep mentioning setting their stereos to the settings that came with the car. I don't remember getting anything with recommended settings on it.

Can somebody tell me what the recommendations are?

I just checked because i have the sub out of my car and it says 8 ohms on it.Do u think it would be ok to replace it with a 4 ohm JL woofer?

The amp is operating in bridged mode, thus you should use an 8ohm single-voice-coil driver if you want to keep it bridged, or you can use a dual-voice-coil driver at 4ohms.

When in bridged mode, the amp "sees" a 4Ohm speaker as 2Ohm, and this amp will not suppor that.

Something is a miss with kenwood on this sub.
If you look at it THIELE-SMALL PARAMETERS you will see a listing of DC Resistance (Re): 3.35 ohms
This means it is definitly a 4 ohm driver but in some of there literature they call it 8 ohms.
I hope someone can get a multimeter on it and find out for sure.

The speaker is a custom unit. You will not find any literature on it. The T-S params you are reading do not apply.

After my sub burnt out, all the other speakers seemed to lose there power. I got it replaced, but now something seems to be loose and rattles after each bump. Anyway Im scared to go to 20. But the system doesnt sound the same.

Take it back to the dealer and tell them to check all the sub-enclosure mounting bolts. If its still under warranty, make sure they keep you happy.
