MSP Sound System

I'm rather disapointed with the sub they've put in. I'd rather put my old sub box as a replacement. Where can I find the system specks for the sound system? Like the gage rating on the power wire, to see if it has enough power for the new system.

i only wish the bass hit a bit harder, but not really expecting much from the 8" in the trunk. also if it got a TINY bit louder. 35 isnt loud enough sometimes, LOL

Amen.

All of you hit up 1st MP3 in NH, he can give you the specs.

*enjoys name dropping like he actually has friends*

yea 35 isnt quite high enough when your bumpin down a residential street at 4 in the mornin lol...o how i love to see old people coming outa their houses yellin at me but i cant hear cuz im bumpin lol...if only gettin a bigger bass wouldnt weigh me down lol (see other thread about stripping down a msp to race lol)

I just put my old sub box back in. If I need the space in the trunk I just take it out and use the 8 inch again.

man, that sound is plenty for me....you'll think the same once you've lost about 30% of your hearing like I have :)

Too many loud cars and too many shows played without earplugs.

And I shall :D.

I have not seen under an MSP hood yet and scoped the power wire but it must be atleast 10 guage and at most 8 guage.

The amp in the back for the subs is the Kenwood KAC-529.
It is rated at 120 watts x1 @14.4 volts int a 4 ohm load.

The sub is a Kenwood KFC-W2005. Its a 4 ohm driver and thats about all you can say about it.

The speakers are just basic drop in replacement Kenwood. Nothing special. I don't know the exact model number. My guess is the fronts are KFC-5708C and the rears are the KFC-1668S. The power handling specs are pointless as kenwood is listing over a 100 watts. THis would be a peak power limit. A very good amp with up to 50 watts rms is the limit I would advise.

The head unit is the KDC-MP919. They provide 22x4 watts rms, Sub volume control via a 4.5 volt <80 ohm preout, 3 preouts, adjustable high and lowpass crossovers. It does not have a direct aux input but I have been told an adapter exist to use the CD change bus as one.

Mazda informed me the tweeters are the regular protege tweeters and not kenwoods. However I have not confirmed this.

it's a 10guage wire...anyone know of a good replacement sub? i was thinking of a 8" JL Audio...ohh also can the Headunits internal crossovers be used on a external amp?

about the aux adapter...there is one ... cant remember the model number but if you search crutchfield for it, it will come up.somethin like CA-C1AUX or somethin

Anyone know if the Sub out on the Deck is a boost or a cut? +15 is 4.5v or is +0 4.5v's? The reason i'm asking is because they had my gain on the amp over half!!! no wonder people keep blowin there subs!!! So I turned it down to 1/4 and have the sub output at +13 and it sounds much better. Just thought you guys might want to know. For all you non technicle :p people....
At 1/2 gain the input on the amp is about .3-.5v's while at around 1/4 gain the input is 1.0v. So if the deck puts out 4.5v's then in theory the amp should be set to minimum gain. Thats way I wanna know if it's a boost or cut on the deck....
:D

I just checked because i have the sub out of my car and it says 8 ohms on it.Do u think it would be ok to replace it with a 4 ohm JL woofer?

As long as the kenwoods enclosure is sealed then the 8" JL will work fine.

+15 is the full 4.5 volts.
The subs are blowing becuase the gain is to high actualy cuasing distortion as the amp is driven into saturation. Its not actualy power thats killing them, but lack there of.

Also use on the NF level to adjust the sub, NOT THE BASS CONTROL!!!

It is a very good idea to back the gain down.

Something is a miss with kenwood on this sub.
If you look at it THIELE-SMALL PARAMETERS you will see a listing of DC Resistance (Re): 3.35 ohms
This means it is definitly a 4 ohm driver but in some of there literature they call it 8 ohms.
I hope someone can get a multimeter on it and find out for sure.

Hey 1st MP3 in NH, I got a huge question for ya.

1.) Will my MSP run my old system?
My old system is this:

2 12" Type R Alpine subs 1000w peak 300 RMS
5 1/4 Type R Alpine Front Seperate Speakers, 40w RMS
6x9 Type R Alpine Rear Coxial(SP) Speakers, like 100w RMS(maybe more)
And an XTANT 600w RMS mono amp

All on the original wire set up?

2.) I am assuming you installed all your stuff yourself, how hard is it? the MSP center console looks like a mutha to take out to change the head unit, and the doors dun look fun either to install the seperates. Also, will they even fit? What are the measurements for the speaker ports? And do you think I could run it all wit the orginal wire hook ups?

If not I prolly just go to tweeter and let them rob me of my money and let them professionally install all my stuff lol.

Thanks in advance!

Your Xtant amp will likely need 4 guage wiring and the stock MSP power wire of 10 guage is far to inadequate. You need 4 guage power and ground but other then that the stock wiring can be retained.

For speaker size and depth information check my harness, dash kits and speakers sticky thread in the audio section. Yes with adaptersthe front speakers can be changed to your components however the rear speakers of a MSP are 6.5" in the rear doors and there are no wires run to the rear deck for 6x9s. You will have to run new leads but once the kenwood sub, amp and enclosure are removed you should be able to place the 6x9s in the back.

Door panel removal has been discussed at great legth so I am sure a search of the audio forum will get you all the info you need.

Since the MSP alreasy has a aftermarket kenwood radio the dash is actualy easy to work with as you just need the kenwood keys to remove the radio.

Where do i get the keys? Sorry for sounding demanding hehe

But other then that I think i let a professional do it lol, i dun want to be mad at myself for ripping up the interior to run a power wire. I let tweeter do it and then sue them if they mess up! lol

Thanks a bunch man.
