MSP reliability (Have searched)

Hi guys, I have a MSP and it has 165k on it now. Rust is starting to concern me, but I'm wondering about anyone else's experiences with this many miles. Any idea on how long it will go for and still be financially viable for commuting. I am in college and looking to save money wherever I can so I will be starting to commute next year and it is a 60 mile round trip for me. The car has been very dependable so far minus a couple small problems but nothing too serious. Have people gotten them up to 200k and further? I have searched for answers but I haven't seen any cars with mileage as high as mine. Any input would be appreciated.

Check out the protege high mileage club thread. Plenty of these cars have gone well past 200k, it all depends on your maintenance. If you don't take care of the car, the car won't take care of you. I could say it will last forever and you could blow the motor and diff tomorrow and I would be a liar. I have put 60k+ miles on my car with relatively minor issues for an MSP and I would consider it a very reliable car. It has 148k miles on the stock motor, trans and turbo.

After 150k miles you can look forward to turbo going. Other than that as long as it's been maintained they're good

I'm at 182,000 right now commuting to work everyday 80miles round trip for about 6months... No problems yet still on original motor,trans,turbo...

This stuff makes me smile. I drive 90 mile round trip for work and im still getting mine running right, but it keeps on ticking as long as I care for her

Thanks for all the insight, I really love the mazda community. I really do love the car, but I don't want to get stuck in too deep a hole before I can sell it. My dad would help me get something else with less miles for more dependability if I decide to sell it in the spring. It is my first car and I really, really would hate to see it go, but I don't want to pass up on getting a newer car now that will take me through college and hopefully a year or 2 beyond. Knowing that it is possible to bring it up over 200k I would prefer to keep it because I could at least get into my senior year and be able to save money up for something in better shape (hopefully a miata haha). My only other concern is rust, with New England winters doing nothing but hurting it. There are some decent patches on the body around the rear wheel wells which I can live with (reluctantly) but that concerns me as to rust on the other components. Anyone have any experience with this?
