MSP Racing Hart weights?

I remember weighing mine on the bathroom scale with 10kmile OE tires at about 42-43lb for the assembly.

Maybe the wheels and tires were really light weight and it was the valve stem that was heavy.

(thumb) yeah, gotta be the valve stems!
Thanks guys, looks like the motegi's I might buy weigh ALOT less!

Just be REAL careful which valve stems you get, man I a peeved at Mazda for giving us the heavy ones. I'm getting the district manager on the phone right now because I think they're responsible for my headunit clunking and hesitating...

which wheels are those? trak lites?

oh wow I didn't realize the MSP wheels were so heavy. ouch.

Guess that rules them out for my next set of 17s, I love the way they look too but I want to go with lighter wheels.

Chopstick- you got it! Trak lites are 14 lbs.
Now I'm just trying to decide between the Kumho MX's or Hankook RS2's!

The MX is a sweet tire (I've had them for a little over a year). Be warned that they will die very, very quickly if you have negative camber like I do (alignment shop did a bad job).

that's one of the things that is making me lean towards the RS2's (been reading alot on here....guess I don't have much of a life!!lol), though it sounds like the MX's are stickier.
Then again, with the LSD's blowing up around here like blow up dolls on a Navy ship, maybe I shouldn't get the MX's!

If you're using these on the track, go for the victoracers!

I have the MX's, and they're wonderful as a compromise, but I commute a long way, and ended up having to replace the fronts in the middle of last season. Why did I compromise? Now I'm just going to buy a set of lighter wheels and victoracers, and just use the MX's on the street.

You know you're a mazdaholic when you have MXs as your off-track tire :)

lol, yeah they were supposed to be the "compromise tire", but weren't much of a compromise. I'll probably go to something with a higher treadwear when these die, but I'll miss them even on the street. The goodyear F1's sound pretty sweet at $90ea, maybe I should buy some and store them for when they're needed. =]

I'm thinking of getting the Goodyears too, and in a big car and driver comparison (13 tires I think) the MX got 11th and the Goodyears got 1st place.

I just don't know if I can fit 215/45, that's the size on sale right? I run 215/40 and it's dangerously close to rubbing in the rear.

215/45/17 is stock, are you running 18's? Not sure which size is on sale, but I think 225/45/17 rubs a bit when the steering wheel is fully rotated. I'd think 225/40 would be ideal, but I haven't seen any decent tires in that size. I'm going to get some 225/45/17 victo's for autox, but I don't think I'd run that size on the street.

I'm running 215/40/17, which is just a hair larger than the stock protege5 diameter. I thought the MSP came with 205/45/17. Either way, I don't think I could fit 225s, as the Protege5 doesn't have as much room in the rear fenders.
