MSP Owners: Anyone run out of gas yet?

most cars come on at about 2.0 gal. our book does not say (at least i didn't see it) i have been about 50 miles after light. i really thought i was going to be pushing.

Everyone's already said this, but once the light comes on you have about two gallons left. That means you can definitely go 40 miles, and close to 60 if you're driving conservatively. (And if you've got that bright orange light in your face and you're not....then that's your problem)

I've made it 55 miles after the light came on. The fuel gauge actually goes well below the empty line before running out of gas, so don't judge by that. I always reset my tripometer every time I fill up. It's a fail safe method to make sure you never run out of gas.

I think the ford excursion's comes on at 3/4 of a tank and then it can probely go a block till its out
lol

you need to wait a while after the car starts. sometimes, the light will come up right when the car starts, but after a few minutes the needle will go up more and the light will turn off.

Does anybody else have the "problem" where you have to "trickle" the gas into the tank once it's near full? I can put in about 12 gallons going "full boar" on the pump and then I have to "squeeze in" the last 2 gallons almost a penny at a time. It's annoying because that last 2 gallons takes about as long to get in as the first 12 gallons did. My 2000 ES was the same way.

Interesting point Girth...I had my gas light on for a little while today(about 12 miles going 80+mph), and when I finally made it to the gas station, the needle was as low as it's ever been. I topped it off, and only got 12.2 gallons in the tank. I remember trying to top it off one time in my Civic, and it overflowed a little, and I've never tried it since:) With all the mods I've got, and racing around how I do, I averaged 25.3mpg...Last time I checked it was ~23.

Yeah 2k3, I'd bet any money that you could have squeezed in at least another gallon if you wanted to. Like you say though - I have overflowed my damn tank 1 time trying to get it truly full.(hand)

I've never put in LESS than 13.2 gallons when my tank was empty (this is even if the little gas light didn't come on yet). And like I say, my 2000 ES was the same way so apparently all Protege's are like that. I always want to get it completely full because that's the easiest way to accurately figure out your MPGs -- and because I hate stopping for gas, so when I do stop I want to jam as much in there as possible. Man I love getting over 400 miles a tank.:)

I've driven from your place to mine with the gas light on before i got to your place. The light comes on with 3 gallons left. Mileage varies in each car and with your foot. I've had between 6 and 28mpg in my car.

On my car, not sure about everyone else's. But when I am putting in gas when it is running (I know, that is a NO NO), it will always flow out onto the car around the 2 gl. mark. I only did it twice to learn to shut the damn thing off.

With only 1/4 tank left, the fuel pump will starve on HARD corners.
I experienced this on a track a few weeks ago, I kept losing power in one corner, then I watched the gauges my next time through and the gas gauge dipped ALL the way down and the fuel light came on, when I got out of the corner (coasting) the needle went up and the light went out.
So if you're going to a track, make sure you've got lots of gas.

I never have any problems with the car running... fills right to the top with no overflow.

Yes on track you need to have at least 1/2 a tank... fuel slosh is a pain!
