What is the differances between the two cars. the obviouse is there is a turbo on one, but what about the rest? If you were to swap parts into the MP5 from the MSP what all would you need? Are the motors the same or are the internals differant? The performance aspect is what I am really interested in. I was thinking about doing a swap down the line and was wondering if I could just get parts from a junkyard or if I should find a wrecked MSP and swap everything in. Are the axles differant cause I thought the MSP had a LSD in the tranny which I would asume they would beef up the axles too. I guess I was just wondering if the turbo parts could be just swaped onto a MP5 along with the ecu's switched.

the engines are identical minus the turbo, exhaust manifold, and inlet plumbing.

the MSP tranny has an LSD and thicker axles....a good swap if you can find it cheap.

if you're looking for cheap boost you'd be better to buy an aftermarket turbo kit. Msp's are not known for running real good.

So if I was gonna boost then it would be a good idea to find a MSP tranny and axles anyway, even if I went with an aftermarket turbo.

There was a thread started a few days ago noting the differences between the '02 and '03 trannies as well. When you guys buy a tranny, make sure you know which year it's from...

the oil pan girdle or whatever you want to call it is also different.

Yes and no. The MSP has the same oil pan but with an oil tap in it. Earlier 2001 protege's and 626's also have a slight difference in the casting where the girdle bolts come through for the thrust bearing. So there are essentially 3 different girdles out there, but they are all basically the same casting. Same dimensions, same shapes, same bolts etc... just A has an oil tap which is the only difference from B, and C is B without an arc of metal reinforcing and supporting the standoffs that go to the thrust bearing. Also all of A, B, and C can go on any 2.0L FS motor.

there is also the so-called "oil cooler"
Well it is a water to oil cooler! :) If it helps at least a little that is at least one small measure toward improvement. But yeah it seems pretty minor when you look at it for sure.
