Throw Out Bearing

Today I took it to the shop and they took the transmission apart it is the Throw Out Bearing

Still in the shop, since i have a aftermarket clutch "ACT" I had to order the part online.... we will see once on..

clutch bearings are bad about this . you should have replaced it when you put in the new clutch just to be safe . But i guess we all learn new lessons
now and then!!!! about this !!!!!

They were replaced when new clutch was installed!!

Let us all bear in mind (also I'm not sure if the MSP has the same tranny as the stock proteges)...that's a Ford transmission in there.

Today I went to go pick up my car, When I got there they were just finishing up.. I turned the car on and STILL make Noise!!! So tomorrow they going to pull transmission off again and look inside...SUCKS (boom02)

Ok just got my car back from the shop they open up the transmission and there was a bearing cracked, It was replaced and it stop making the noise. Finally!!!

Probably just a tranni drive bearing on the shaft. closest to 4th gear

I get that noise too, but warranty has been passed.
I'm at 114 000KM and warranty expired at 100 000KM.
I had my warranty REBUILT in March 2007, so it's only been 7 months, you think they screwed something up on purpose?

You might just have a bearing. Check you tranni oil for scorching. Also you should have about 3 qts in their. I think some trannis may be leaking.

Interesting, I've been getting a similar noise... kind of an intermittent rattling when the car is cold, and idling in neutral with the clutch out. I've also got a bit of clutch chatter, so I'm hoping it's just the throwout bearing and not something that requires cracking open the tranny.

Just finished installing a clutch/transmission in my festiva, so I'm all brushed up on that job! hehe....

How hard is changing the throwout bearing?
Or how much would the parts be?

Gonna check the oil tonight since the stealership filled it up for me.

To change the throwout bearing, you have to drop the transmission from the engine. Since that's not a trivial job and the clutch is right there, you virtually always change both the clutch and throwout bearing at the same time. I think most clutch kits even come with the bearing.

^^^ most do, I would do the flywheel too, gotta save up to do mine...gonna be a tall order

+1 to the flywheel. You can usually get the old one resurfaced by a machine shop for quite a bit less than buying a new one. But it would be a shame to spend all that work replacing the clutch, only to find that the flywheel is a bit off.
