titanium msp... slight dent =(
my battery's almost dead (car wont start) so i have to replace it... my question is if i disconnect the battery for 1 minute to connect the new one will my deck reset itself and ask for the security code? i know the codes a b**** to get from kenwood and i dont feel like being without it

so in other words what causes the deck to prompt for the security code?

There should not be a security code unless you encoded one yourself.

When you first start your car does it display 'Code On' after the kenwood logo? If so, then there is a code that either you, or your dealership put on the unit. If that doesn't display, then you shouldn't worry about it.

My head unit had no code until I stupidly put one in myself. Once encoded, you cannot remove the code. Since my head unit has developed a knack for 'freezing up' and needing to be reset, I have to keep putting my in my damn code once a month.

Oh God, did you encode it? It does no good. If someone steals your face and it doesn't work, what do you think they'll do, return it to you? I would first see if you can disengage the code, then change your battery. Good Luck!

thanks guys. no i didnt encode one... ive just seen a couple posts regarding this and so i just didnt want to be surprised. thanks again

when i disconnected my battery my head unit stopped recogizing the CD i had inside, but nothing a reset button would not fix

Kenwood Code

There is a code to by pass this secuirty code. Spent 1.5 hours at the dealer trying to get them to fix this. They had to call Kenwood, but got it workin. You might want to take it to your dealer. I would post the code for everyone but the admins will filter the posting.

and for a good reason.
u must be dumb not to understand why...

If you have not entered the code yourself, AND if the dealer didn't enter one initially, then the deck will not ask you for your code upon disconnecting the battery. You SHOULD remove any CDs from your deck before you disconnect for the reasons someone mentioned above about CD recognition. If you forget to do this then try the reset button (I did this and it didn't work at first). If you are lucky enough for it not to work the first time, push and hold the eject button to flip the deck over. Then touch the left top corner of the deck to flip it back over. Then hit the reset button and it should be back to normal (less all your settings of course).

I thought that I would be smart and remove the faceplate before disconnecting my battery thinking that the code might be stored in the faceplate. However, this is not the case as the code was stored in the deck and it asked me for it anyway.

If you have set the code and can't remember it then you have to hit the dealership for the reset code.
