MSP is acting odd during stops, need advice

hey guys, i'm noticing a weird thing on my MSP. after the brakes get warmed up, and i stop, maybe the last 20 yards the car lurches about 10 times before stopping. nothing major, like i'm not getting thrown around or anything, it just is weird.

thinking a few things could be wrong:

wheels unbalanced
rotors warping
something wrong with the LSD

what do you all think? i'm going to the dealer for a service next week, i'd like to have an idea of what the problem is before i get there though.

thanks so much
Charlie

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. My MSP does the same thing. It's not anything violent, throwin' you through the windshield .. but the car lurches, very subtly, for the last few seconds you brake before coming to a halt.

I've had my ABS checked and my rotors checked -- and was told they were fine. My dad keeps telling me that it's just the ABS system, that I'm not used to it because my previous car didn't have ABS. He hasn't convinced me, as I've driven HIS Protege and it doesn't do it.

So basically .. I haven't the slightest idea what it is, either. If you find out, let me know!

warped rotors.

front ones are warped = shaking of steering wheel when braking.
rear ones are warped = pulsating when braking.

both front and rear are warped = shaking, pulsating, grinding = MSP after 7k miles.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the insights. I'll have my mechanic check it out, I might go ahead and replace them with aftermarkets, we'll see.

I get exactly the same thing with about 16k miles on the car. During the last few seconds while stopping, the brakes pulse causing the car to lurch.

So if the rotors are warped why does it only show in the last 20 yards? Every car I've ever driven with warped rotors always pulsated/shaked consistently from the moment I hit the brakes(?).

In my experience with ABS cars of all sorts I've never experienced that so my vote is its not ABS.

I was wondering if it was the Electronic Brakeforce Distribution stuff malfunctioning?

Mine does...THE EXACT SAME THING!!! Its sutle and annoying...but unsettling. Didn't think it was rotors because it wasn't really "shaking".

well i know the pulsing is from teh rear brakes, i would be it's because the rear brakes don't take much load in normal braking right until the end. just a guess tho. i'm getting a quote to replace them on tuesday, but i might just upgrade to the corksport drilled ones.

KVR has a set of brakes for us that is pretty damn cheap for both the front and rear. $125 for both fronts (slotted) and $147 for the rears (Cross Drilled or slotted).

Front Part # MA858
Rear Part # MA872
Also Front Carbon Fiber Brake Pads $59.00

i'm going with rotora.
both fronts cross drilled and slotted for $165.
rear cross drilled and slotter $183.

add Bobcats to that, and say goodbye to braking problems.

or i might just do crossdrilled, to save pads

something about euro spec in the rear or front I forgot which one. Either the front or rear will fit not both. Someone will chime in hopefully. I guess you can go with a combination of rotora and kvr. That's what I'll most likely do.
