MSP is a POS!

it is one of the most fun cars i've driven but i can see the pains you've had left you with a bad taste in your mouth for mazda's. So good luck in the future and we were glad to have you around for the time you were and i hope the community helped you more than you had to help it

this is sad, I think 80% of ppl on this board having regular sedans/5 with the 2.0 are probably like me.. jealous of you all with MSP ... after reading this thread I don't feel so bad tho, maybe the 2.0 is not meant to have a turbo ;)
I might just stick with header and cai after all lol
I just hope the speed3/6 are better built to handle the turbo... Im sure they are but.. out of my league anyway..2 kids at once is expensive! ;)

I've got the 2.0 with a lot of NA mods, its how you drive/maintain your car. I got 108k on mine and only thing i've changed were the rotors/pads at 55k due to being warped. Changed them to brembo cross drill / slotted and Raven pads..been running strong since. The horn went out around 100k.. picked one up at autozone for 10 bucks....

Sorry for your lemon MSP.. but it would be better/cheaper to fix/upgrade your problems then getting a new car.

MAZDA FTW!!!!!
:bs: TOYOTA :bs:

Hey nice to see I'm not the only one with a tranny leak at 56k!!
My list of troublesome crap is beginning to pile up too. Fun car but its probably my last mazda.

I've had problems, warrantied - LSD, bushings, replaced body kit, transmission sticking/not going into 2nd gear, replaced muffler, replaced a belt that fell off, 4 subwoofers! and I'm on my 3rd windshield. FIXED (paid for) - aftermarket rotors/pads, replaced wheel speed sensor, wires rusted so my alarm f'd up, O2 sensor, manifold bolt fell out, and aftermarket sub after the last waranty sub blew- it NEVER has blown.

All of that and I must say I LOVE this car. It has 77k miles and is my wife and my only vehicle. Definetly a love - hate but its love much more often than hate. This is a car you have to want, but its worth it if you do.

You didn't have warped rotors, you got taken. A replacement wastegate costs $60 from ATPturbo.com. Your engine mounts are probably fine and OMG a gasket is leaking after almost 60Kmiles, its a $15 gasket max. Sucks your LSD went out after warranty but it sounds like you're falling for all the dealership's lies and they are exploiting you.

I drove my MSP off the lot with 500miles and the largest non-maintenance repair I've done is replace the WGA. Amazing after 50K miles, 7 days at the track, 3 autoXs, 12psi drag races and everything else I've put my car through it runs fairly perfect everyday.

werd.

I had a shifter fork in the tranny break.... it was my own damn fault. Warranty covered it anyway. Had to replace the wastegate actuator.... $60 and about an hour and a half. Just take care of your s*** and educate yourself so you don't get ripped by the dealer.

And not a single Toyota in history has ever had these sorts of problems......

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out!

I have had my MSP for two years now. My brake rotors did warp early but $50 later I fixed them and moved on, big friggin deal. I drive my car hard daily at 10-11 psi with supporting mods. I have had very little issues and my car runs great and is fairly quick (to me at least). I plan to replace the clutch this year and weld the LSD when I do that just so I don't have to worry about a broken LSD in the future. All in all, for the money this car was put on the market for MSRP, you can't really beat it... that is if you know how to treat it.

All cars have issues, some worse than others. Some MSP owners have had major issues, some have had none. You are obviously one of the unlucky ones but don't flame Mazda as a whole because there are plenty of other people (including RX-7 turbos etc etc etc) who would disagree with you and say that they love their car. I for one like Mazda and the new things they are putting on the market now are a force to be reckoned with, like the Mazdaspeed 3.

The MSP was a 1 year limited production car with all sorts of aftermarket parts installed stock, which I am sure you know. That being said, would you not expect it to have issues? Most cars resolve issues by releasing a 2nd gen or next year model. In the MSP's case, they released the 03.5's but mostly changed cosmetic things. I agree some of the things that "break" on the MSP are of subpar quality, but all in all... I also feel it is a great car, easy to work on and mod. For the price, you can't beat it.

if you can identify a single toyota that meets your standards, go for it.

for me:
fun to drive
fairly inexpensive
doesnt look like every other toyota/honda out there...oh wait...

Bought mine with 183 miles on the car. Didn't like that but wanted the car. Today it sits at 61,930 miles. Original parts still on the car, brake pads, rotors, motor mounts(not broken), lsd, clutch, etc. Only went to the dealer for the flash and bushings. I have only changed the spark plugs, pcv, belts, tires, radio and coolant. Its been a great car so far.

Barring mechanical happenstance, I firmly believe the MSP's problems are 98% correlated with how you drive it and maintain it. For what it cost new and what it came equipped with, you cannot beat it IMO.

The MSP is a hunk of s***

no brian, tell us what you REALLY think!!

ha, i guess thats the outlook you get on an econobox after owning a porsche?? I guess i can't blame you.

haha
i'm sorry dude
i gotta laugh
you must be the most unlucky mazda owner ever!

is funny tho...all it takes is a few happenings and poof..you hate mazda.

My LSD went at 60 thou and i'm now running open diff which i changed myself.
clunk? well...that's ambient music for our pleasure...what other car has that?

warped rotors? have you even played any racing game with vibrations on? (xbox, ps2 need for speed?) tha's just to let you know how hard you are breaking!

leakye valve cover..bah..easy fix...CHANGE IT!
at 60 thou is bound to happen
tranny rebuilt at 15k...well..tel your brother to shift by pushing the clutch in...

is not that i dn't agree with you..like i said..your just unlucky
people had blown their motors at stock boost and think mazda is the worst company ever...i'm running 10 psi and the engine hasn't blown

get an undestructible car like a humvee...you'll be happier

The MSP is AMAZING even though my MP5T is faster... I would rather have an MSP

:p fixed, lol...

64k no major issues... leaky wastegate and a bad window washer pump.

honestly everything youve listed is a fairly simple, decently cheap (vs. say $610 from the dealer) fix... You cant hold an ENTIRE car company responsible for your issues. As you can see, MOST of us (just like with ANY car) havent had major issues over the life of the car.

And go ahead and buy that Toyota, Ill continue to actually enjoy driving. Man you should pick up one of their 2007 models.... I hear besides all their RECALLS, theyre great. Enjoy the time you spend @ the dealer service dept, looks like youre goin to be spendin a lot more time there (try not to beat on the next car you buy).

BTW, sounds like you should be teaching your brother how to drive...
