/rant on/ Why has no one made a frikin FMIC kit for the Mazdaspeed protege? What, our cars not good enough for you all? We must be the redheaded stepchildren of the Protege kids. CAN I GET A WITNESS?
/rant off/

Ok seriously, can spool/fm/any other company hook up the msp with an fmic kit please :D

We will be fabbing one down the road, however we have some other priorities that we are addressing now. Expect an FMIC kit in about 4-5 months for the MSP

You could make a custom kit yourself. I bet a startion intercooler would be a good upgrade. Or get your hads on a evo intercooler.

If you are mechnically inclined you could make yourself a good custom FMIC for around $500-$600.

I dont wanna use one out of another car. Im lookin for a good quality ic and properly made piping. I might go with hks piping fabbed together, with either a spearco or hks ic, iffin its gonna be a while for a kit. :D

weld shop here I come.

I can't spill the beans yet, but I will hit up this thread again on Sunday morning. I should have some helpful info for you fellas then...Later,

I hate to break it to you but most of the intercoolers out of production cars are pretty good.

Not being rude, but I dont like using used parts if i dont have too. A starion has not been roduced since when. early 90's? Do I want an intercooler that is at least 10 years old? No.

And no most intercoolers out of production cars are not pretty good. why do you think they make upgrade kits for them. The starion ic has an efficiency of about 70%. thats not very good compared to an hks, blitz, greddy, speaco at 85% efficiency.

Not flamin ya bro, just stating what I have researched. :D

There is a member on this site with a Mazdaspeed who has accually relaced all thier piping with metal piping, and has a larger FMIC too. Can't remember who, but they have the pictures in thier signature.

I'm suprised a FMIC MSP kit isn't out yet. It can't be hard to do.

what about keeping the stock IC and setting up water spray system? anyone have links or cost of how to do this? what would be better, an upgraded FMIC, or stock + water/alcohol?

I forgot the kids name also but I know he's from San Diego.

PM the member "Soundbombing" he has the FMIC and piping. He's got plenty of pics on here if you do a search.

take Spool's or FM's FMIC....get the piping from the intercooler to the intake manifold from them also. You would then only need to fabricate the piping from the turbo outlet to the FMIC.

Someone jump in....if this sounds to far fetch?

No, that would work fine. We're not likely to come out with an MSP upgrade kit for one big reason - there are no MSPs even close to us!

The intercooler for the MSP is a parts bin special, originally intended for a little diesel truck in Europe. It was chosen to keep costs down. Corky Bell figures it's good for about 150 hp. The plastic piping was required by crash test regulations, and it's far more restrictive than the steel piping that was used for the press cars. So that's a good place to start.

After that, I think the best thing to do would be to pop on a T28.

I keep thinking about moving the stock intercooled to a front mount location.
Where it is now it's barely exposed to any airflow, why not just move it and improve it that way????

Mazdaspeed FMIC kit

please check out this thread http://www.msprotege.com/vbb225/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19253

There are pictures in this thread of the intercooler system that we have fabricated for one of the ListMembers. Dependent on interest in the kit it could possibly be reproduced and ready for sale within the next month.

Anyone interested, or for any questions, please contact me off list by e-mail or AIM at the info in my profile.

Thanks, Jeff Kipe

FMIC for MS3

If any of you live in the Los Angeles area we will be able to make our front mounted I/C fit the MS3.
Just get us a car and we'll make it and tool it.

We will do it at cost.

We'll post pictures of our FMIC.
