MSP Clutch Torque Capacity

I figure I'd ask this in here since y'all own the car. Does anyone know the maximum torque the stock MSP clutch can withstand? I recently finished my MSP turbo kit swap about 2 weeks ago but my stock P5 clutch is already starting to slip. I'm probably only at around 160-170whp and 200-225 is my goal so I'm wonderinig if this is within the MSP clutch's limits? If so, I'd rather by one of these for $149 than the Exedy Stage 1 upgrade which is $349 (both from PG). Thanks.

Don't bother with the stock clutch. Go ahead and upgrade.
That appears like what I will be doing. I just wanted to check to see if the stock MSP clutch was worth it because it's a good $200 cheaper than the Stage 1 which I have heard some many good reviews about.

it all depends on how you drive. I put 100,000 hard kms on my stock speed clutch boosting up to 14psi and driving quite hard. If you dont do big burnouts and know how to drive the msp clutch will have no problems. Most screw them up at the track warming up the tires I would imagine.

In fact if I could get a cable to upload from my phone I could show you the pics I have of my msp clutch, looks like its in great shape even after all those hard 2nd gear shifts.

The way the gearing works in a car, even if you double or tripple the horsepower of the car you will never put down more torque to the wheels in 2nd-5th then you would if you were stock going WOT in 1st gear. Just dont abuse the car in 1st and make sure you can drive without burning the clutch and you will be fine with the msp piece. Then again the way some people drive the clutch is gone after 20,000km I dunno I beat the car but I know how to drive so it all works out and I could still get rubber in 3rd after all mines beeen through.

FYI, the stock MSP clutch is not the same as the Exedy OEM replacement.

I ended up going with the Exedy Stage 1 anyway. It will hold more tq than I should ever make as I'm not going all out in the P5 - maybe 225 whp at the most (but you never know). Now I'm just looking for a good flywheel since I'm going to have the clutch out - I might as well replace that as well. Unfortunately the differential will have to come later...

Good choice on the clutch, but Jeff is right about the stock unit. It can hold up amazingly well if you don't abuse it. See if you can get your flywheel machined in the back to lighten it up, and by all means have it resurfaced.

I just actually went with the Fidanza from PG yesterday as well. I'll probably have to re-learn how to drive a little as the Fidanza is 7 lbs but after that it should be nothing but fun :)

Is there anyway to get the specs of the exedy oem replacement?

Good to see people are searching and bringing back these dead threads. It all depends on the type of t=drivig that you do. For some the stock clutch has held up. Mine started slipping at around 30k miles. Not on take of but at freeway speeds, a litttle boost in 5th gear and I could get it to slip if I was agressive with the throtle. I'd go with soething that wil hold plenty of torque, even if you don't need it it will hold up, if you go and get something that won't hold the power you'll end up spending more down the line.

That combo exedy/fidanza is 650$ but if you buy it seperatly it comes out to only $5 more? Not much of a combo deal I find.

Yeah, I actually did some hunting down and talking and got both for roughly $612 shipped I believe.
