MSP A/F not as rich as people think

The people out there boosting 9-12psi on stock fuel are nuts... that or i just got a car that wasnt as rich as everyone elses...

Anyways, I hit the local Chassis Mustang Dyno today... here is the outcome:

158.1hp @ 5850rpm on 7psi (roughly 178fwhp if it were dynojet)
156.6tq @ 3600rpm on 7psi (roughly 176fwtq if it were dynojet)

my tq is pretty much flat from 3600-5625 then starts to fall off gradually

my HP is a steady climb until it hits 5850rpm and becomes as flat as a board all the way to redline.

My A/F numbers started off rich at about 11.0 up until about 4600rpm in which it steadily climbed to a stoichmetric reading of 12.15 by 5200rpm and then gradually fell back to about 11.9ish by redline

(i'll post the A/F map as well as the dyno graph as soon as I can get this damn card reader to work)
SO... the moral of the story is: tune your own car... do not listen to idiots on forums that say "run 10 lbs safely on stock fuel"... because my car is a prime example that each car reacts differently to different mods and boost levels...

Boost Smart... Boost Safe...

When mine hit open loop operation it was below 10:1 all the way to redline at 11 psi. Turbo magazine pretty much confirms the same thing. Yours maybe a special case but every msp i seen dyno was almost off the chart rich.

possibly so... but again, even though mine may be the odd ball out... im sure there are others out there with the same as mine...

so just be careful what you boost, and be sure to run it on a wideband while increasing your boost (rockon)

I agree everyone should boost according to there car. To give you an idea how rich mine runs there is soot on my bumper if I drive it 300 miles without a wash. Thats with 2 cats by the way.

damn man... i definately dont get that... my tailpipe blackens up quicly... but thats about it

on the dyno run i made...it was the same high 11's and low 12's but that was at 15psi,
guess im nuts for boosting that much...

I thought it just ran rich stock. I kinda knew it ran lean at high boost...thats pretty much the problem with alot of turbo cars without proper fuel managment...same with the SRT-4. I thought thats the main reson why many were advised not to turn up the boost.

On the dyno wideband, where do theye place the wideband o2 sensor??

Ditto I have been at 12PSI for over 30k miles not one problem at all and now it goes to 15PSI STOCK NO MBC. Long boring story...

I've been running 13psi of boost for about 7,000 miles now with no problems. Same with me, shortly after washing my car the entire rear gets covered with black soot all the way up to the spoiler. I'm running 3" catless pipes. I'd have to say I'm also running extremely rich.

Very true, as my car happens to run reasonably lean in comparison to other MSPs as well. If there is one thing we can be sure of about our cars....it's that you really can't be sure of anything because they are SO DAMN INCONSISTANT! I have no cats and although I get the sooty exhaust tip it never goes beyond that!

that sounds humorous. also sounds like it would make a good sig picture.

they stuff it into the end of the tailpipe... that is the norm for a wideband o2 at a dyno... no other place to put it unless they were to tap the exhaust somewhere...

as for octane... dunno if that would play a role... on mine i was runnin 93 w/ a bottle of octane booster additive
