MSD coil for Mazda

Does anybody know why mazda use 3wire for DIS and ford use 2wire,what is the third wire for.Because I been thinking about installing MSD coil on the MZ6 that they do sale for Ford but the enginemanegement is differet.

The coil has an amplifier inside. The wires are power, ground, and trigger.

'Cause the Ford doesn't have the amplifier in the coil. It's in a separate box, but I am not familiar with where they put it. It may be in the box with the ECU. The coils are different, you can't use the MSD coil for Ford in your Mazda.
