ms3 vs neon srt-4

just out of curiosity, what makes srt4 keep up with ms3 and in some cases, faster despite the power difference?
Weight?
Gear ratio?
i dont know, im curious and bored at work.
 
Isn't the MS3 and the SRT-4 supposed to be rivals or something?? Just what I read from a magazine b 4.. they were supposed to be competitors or something...

i think SRT4s are a bit underrated from the factory. i have seen stock dynos of 215whp.
 
I have seen stock dynos of 235whp for an srt 4, plus there is not boost limit in 1st and 2nd and it only weighs 2880lbs. the 2004 srt (with the limited slip dif) is actually faster by more than .5 seconds to 60 and .2 seconds faster in the quarter mile.

If you ever pull up to a SRT-4 neon, and they rev their engine, just roll down your rear windows. I love doing that, gotta love dodge and non-power windows in the back.
 
I pulled a SRT today, but hell if i know what year model it was. i know he was damn surprrised and then proceeded to tell me his car was stock. i laughed and said "so is mine". the his buddy said i was full of s*** and then they turned to another road. i honestly believe he had no idea what he was racing. then again i was near ft hood. most of those guys have no clue about anything.
 
It's really a drivers race. Yes, yes, the srt-4 does nudge out the speed3 in 0-60 time and possibly the quarter too...but it is really a drivers race between the two. Remember, the ms3 doesn't put out all of its power down in the first two gears which hampers the times somewhat. Mazda has never been about having the 'fastest' car on the road. Mazda does however make some of the best all around cars on the market. Which is why you see cars like the 3, RX8, and Miata always on the top of car editor lists.

MS3 definitely has more top end and should take any stock srt-4 or wrx from a roll once in third gear. However, when it comes down to really comparing the cars you get much 'more' with the ms3 regardless if it's .1 or .2 seconds slower in stock form.

Most SRT owners I've run into can't run for crap from a dig and really depend on their car being really faster than what they're racing to catch up on top end. I've raced my friends srt and from the dig i dessimated him royally but from a roll I get the initial jump and he comes back higher up.
 
I like the SRT4. I test drove a new one in 2004. I *almost* bought it. The stars didn't align or whatever and the deal didn't go through. I think I paid $1500 more for my MS3 than what the 2004 SRT4 was going for. Looks wise, the MS3 is much better looking IMO. It's been my experience that the few SRT4 owners I've seen where I live are stop light rev'rs and like to show you exactly what they have. I am sure not all SRT4 owners are like that. The ones that are just happen to stick in my mind.
Both are great cars. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. I don't care what the other guy has. I spend my time appreciating what I have.
 
I had a srt for about a month and a half right at the begging of 2004, this car looks better IMO and srts are about as common as red v6 mustangs, and I appreciate having something different from everyone else.

How are they rivals? The SRT-4 has been off the market for two years. That's like saying the MS3 rivals a 1999 Boxster.

Glad to see Hyun is still a danger on the road.
 
I love SRT-4's. I like how they look, how they go, how they sound and how they handle and that HUGE inercooler that comes stock from the factory.

Overall the MS3 is the better car but I got nothing but love for the little dodge that could. The neon SRT-4 changed to sport compact car game. Before it came along, car makers were content to saddle us sport compact enthusiasts with less than 200 hp (160-185ish) and even less torque. Then the Neon SRT-4 came and LAID DOWN THE FREAKIN BAR!

I mean do you really think that the MS3 would have come out boasting the numbers it did of not for the SRT4? especially after the anemic numbers the MSP put down despite being turbocharged. Look I'm as much a fan of handling as the next guy and sure the interior left something to be desired but when push comes to shove I like the feeling of being pinned to the back of the drivers seat and for a long time no car let you do it as cheap or reliably as the SRT4 neon at least until the MS3 came along. I got nothing but love for the little guy. It had guts and it didn't detonate on you if you looked at it funny. With a little bit of cash you could make it handle great. Neon SRT4: Missed by those who knew them, hated by those who couldn't catch them(drive2)

Couldn't agree with you more. Nothing bad to say about the srt4. And it did change the game for sport compacts.
 
I respect the srt4 they can be fast if modified, but then again who doesnt?)but I still think its a crappy car...

the MS3 is a competitor of the SRT4, probably the closest one, but not technically since it aint in production no more, thats why the magazines put the wrx. They said the GTI/civic SI were rivals, but just because they are FWD...but they are WAY behind the Speed3...probably the fastests FWD production car up to date. Magazines said the MS6 was the EVO/STI rival just because it was AWD and turbocharged...hm, not really, completely off. Dont trust magazines kids, just read them :)

They are pretty fast stock too.

They will beat the New GTI, NEW CIVIC SI, COBALT SS, MSP, WRX, SENTRA SE-R, heck even an MS3 even though thats more of a drivers race. So I'd say they are pretty fast stock seeing as even today there are few if any cars in their price range stock for stock that would beat them.
