MS3 vs MS6

:
MSP & MS3
With the massive price discount/incentives in place... the MS6 is even more of a bargain than before. I quickly priced out a GT w/Sirius and a few others and came to about $27k That's about the high-water mark for the upcoming MS3 Comparing the base Sport model brings the pricing surprisingly close to that of the base MS3. Granted, this pricing is only good till the end of the month so it's not like this will be the case once the MS3 is out. But I digress...

I'm just wondering what you guys think is, pound for pound, the better value right now. Obviousy they're 2 different cars that appeal to different types... but i'm talking about value. If I had $27k burning a whole in my pocket... which car would give me the greatest ROI? relatively loaded up MS6 (sans nav) or loaded up MS3 (w/nav)

Bigger, heavier, AWD, Not as much storage capability. It does look better in my opinion than the Speed3 though.. I just need the utility of the hatch for my dog and other errands. You also need to look at the 06's depreciation value as they're already about a year old where as a 2007 MS3 will be a year newer to the person that buys it off of you.

I think the difference in depreciation between the 06 MS6 and the 07 MS7 may be offset somewhat by the fact that there are significant rebates being offered now, thus cutting the sticker down by about $4k 3 years later... will the prospective buyer even know that?

But your point is made... as for the bigger, heavier thing... it's not THAT much heavier. I mean, if it is... it certainly doesn't translate into that much of a loss in acceleration between the two. (since I think the MS6 is still faster) it would be tough to get used to such a big car though... was sort've looking forward to the utility of the MS3 as well.

well you do need to take into account possible depreciation but buying a car that already "lost" a year is not a bad thing depending on the mlies you put in.
See, if you put a lot of miles on the car then the year you lose is offset by the amount of miles you are putting in.
Example. 2006 car: you put 8k miles in a year so now you have a 2 year old car with extremely low mileage. You could charge a premium for a car with low mileage even though its 2 years old.
Say you put high mileage: 20k in a year; well the car is 2 years old and then 20k in a 2 year old car is not so bad. If you have an 07 with 20k miles then you are losing value because 20k is way too high for a 1yr old car.

I think the ms6 offers a lot more value for the money given that it is loaded. but again i am a little biased against the hatch...
