MS3 Quirks

back to the op, the biggest complaints i have are squeaks... front seat rubs against center console and squeaks (im a pretty big guy so this may not be observed by others) rear end squeaks/clunks. door panels buzz rattle and squeak with speakers...
other quirks:
-auto wipers can be a bit annoying (i went out one morning after it had been raining to turn the car on to get it warmed up and the wipers slung water off the windshield all over my open door... not really the cars fault, but still annoying)
-car really likes to pretend it is letting you shift to 1st when it is actually going into 3rd at a stop...
-placement of subwoofer (bose), there is a small rock or something in the tray for the SW under the passengers seat, when i go around corners i can hear it roll from side to side and its driving me bonkers...
-horn is a joke...

overall i am VERY happy with this car, and am really glad i switched from my truck though i do miss being in a bigger car where people dont cut you off as much...

are you saying the bolsters are touching the console? if so all i have to say is DAMN!!!

i can add another quirk, this is the first car i haven't been able to shift into reverse until coming to a complete stop, else it grinds horribly.

sometimes during parallel parking manuevers or backing into a spot i tend to try to put the car in reverse whilst still coasting forwards a little bit. and every other car i had i could still put it in reverse while coasting to kinda save time (so jackass behind me cant do a pull-in to the spot im parallel parking into)

Don't have this problem. I can engage reverse while moving forward and vice versa without grinding.

This is the 2nd person I have seen have this "issue". A coworker drove my car and at every stop, he kept putting it in 3rd when trying to get 1st. Not sure how someone even manages that... my fiance, who has never driven a manual, was able to get into 1st every time when I was teaching her how to drive it.

I have the exact opposite experience, all my other manual cars I could not throw it in reverse while creeping forward, but with the ms3 I can. :/

not the side bolsters on the backrest, but the bottom of the seat when i am driving quickly over rough roads will rub on the console. i also have the seat all the way back, bringing the seat closer to the console.

this doesnt happen every time, but if i am lazy, and when i was first getting used to the car. i try not to shift my cars like vin diesel, and sometimes to get it into first you have to push it all the way to the gate limiter (not sure what you call it) and grind the shifter against that to make sure it stays in first...
not sure how one manages to never have that happen with this car... every single person who has driven my car has had that happen.
no need to be a dick

I'm not sure what others think, but that's how I thought you were supposed to shift into 1st. Every manual I've driven required pulling towards the left and pushing forward. Whenever I simply push forward, it goes into 3rd.

Cars tried: 06 Civic, 02 A4, 03 Jetta GLI, 07 Jetta 2.5, 06 350Z, 04 RX8, 08 MS3

coasting backwards and then putting in first i have no problem. but i've had this issue in my 07 mz3 as well. just coasting forward (say above 3mph) and attempting to shift into reverse (witch clutch all the way in) will produce a grind.

Lol

all i am trying to say is that this car requres much more effort to put into first than any other car i have driven (2 porsches one new one old, vw passat, dodge dakota, dodge 2500 diesel dually, toyota t100)

Used to happen to me all the time.

Yeah the mix-up between third and first is a littel annoying especially when you want to beat a slow guy at a light and instead you stall. I've been driving for over 20 years and I get embarassed everytime I stall. :-)

I think this is more gettign used to the closer gear spacing of the car. It never happens anymore.
